Sakara

New album and new interview, discover that singeress from England and enjoy....

interview SakaraWelcome Sakara and thank you for answering our questions; Well, three years ago you released your first solo album "Blood and Stone"
Now could you introduce your new album?

The new album is called “Beauty & Bravery” it was released on the 21st of June via Ravenheart Music Records. Songs are about bravery, warrior women, goddesses, priestesses, nature, magic, courage & honor.

Beauty and Bravery sounds with a lot of musical contrast, how did your find your inspiration when you wrote that album?
I draw inspiration from many sources but mostly from a deep spiritual connection I have with the natural world and to the old ways of the shaman. I am inspired by the atmosphere, diversity and unpredictability of the elements, the many dimensions, multi layers and aspects within our selves, the earth and the universe. Like nature my songs can be calm, peaceful, serene whilst others are powerful aggressive and strong. Like a soft wind or a thunder storm, crashing waves or a gentle flowing stream, the song of a beautiful little wren or the raw of a lion. To some it may seem like extremes but to me it is natural. The album is also inspired by life’s challenges & the old codes of warriors and knights of times gone by. My album conjurors up the image of a warrior, it is about reclaiming our power and our right to be who we truly are, not what were conditioned to be. It’s about standing up for what we believe in even if that means alone! The warrior learns to overcome fears, conditioning and limitations, to face and battle inner demons, conflicts, negativity and restrictions imposed by the self, others and society, overcoming them and becoming her own conqueror!

It seems that Beauty and Bravery is a bit deeper than Blood and Stone, and also darker; why that choice?
I write from the heart, each song is alive with spirit of its own. I didn’t choose to make the songs in any particular way as each develop and flow by them selves revealing their story to me. It is hard to have an outside perspective of my own music but perhaps it appears darker and deeper as the journey of beauty and bravery takes the listener into the unknown. To me it is about balance you cannot have day with out the night, the sun without the moon, the male without the female. Deeper and darker is a good reflection especially if it is the delving and exploring of ones own psyche or soul. When we repress aspects of ourselves we feel trapped and unhappy, to give it life is to set it free. One of the greatest adventures we can ever take in life is that of our own souls journey

You made a video of one song "Weave My Web" Is that in a kind of way the single of your n
interview Sakaraew album?
Yes it is one of two singles that was released off the new album. “Weave My Web” was my first official music video and was great fun to make. Videographer Charlie Wharton was fantastic and professional even though I failed to tell him before hand about my eight legged friends haha and considering he had a real phobia of spiders he did pretty well I would say haha but I am glad that I forgot to mention to him before hand as he would have never come in the first place ;) lol so it worked out in the end haha

Three years between "Blood and Stone" and "Beauty and Bravery", why?
Time fly’s by fast and after the success of “Blood & Stone” I was kept very busy indeed as the album opened many doors for me and opportunities flooded in to do other things one of which was the joining of Staffordshire band Apparition as a guest singer & I went on to perform at The Dames of Darkness Festival in 2013 alongside bands such as Delain and Visions of Atlantis and European shows with them too. I was even scouted for Xfactor and other TV talent & reality shows however I turned these down because I have seen how these shows often try to mould and change people and I just want to be myself with out all the hype and bs. However it was of course a nice complement to be asked and it has clearly worked for some including my cousin who is now a famous pop star both here and in the US so I am not knocking them it was just not for me. It was during these times I released my true path and how important it was to stay focused on my own material and so after many distractions, amazing offers & opportunities I managed to get back on track and focus on Sakara again and worked hard since to write and deliver a second album. Fans of Sakara kept asking about a second album so I count let them down now could I !!!

Do you sing with another band now?
No I am still a solo artist but I do have a backing band for my up & coming live shows

I've got the feeling when I'm listening "Beauty and Bravery" that it's an album much more personal , as if it sounds more important for you....Am I right?
Yes it is important to me but I would say both my albums are personal “Beauty & Bravery “ perhaps has a different intensity, more strength & power behind it as I have grown as a person and artist. I feel the musical style has progressed and evolved naturally I don’t analyses it, it is what it is. I write from the heart & soul and many of my songs are about nature & the sad fact that we are destroying it. My music is one small way of expressing the issues that are close to my heart and my way of giving a voice to nature and all her creatures by contri
interview Sakarabuting my humble skills for good. A warrior’s role has always been a protective one and our earth and all her beautiful creatures are worth fighting for protecting and saving from extinction, abuse and exploitation.

There is a lot of stories on your album, magical and nature, the last point looks very important for you
Yes the bonus track “One” is about the lost connection between humanity and nature, how so many are cut off from the natural world today. I ask you to feel the oneness with nature as you listen to this song, inner peace and serenity are always there inside us and we can visit any time we wish. This song is also about my own connection with the powers that be and a song to honor all things & also who I am, all of who I am, the truth of my soul and why I am here. Why are we here? What is your soul’s purpose on earth? What are you here to do? Who are you really deep down behind the masks & the roles you play? When you can answer these questions their will be no doubt in your mind and oneness lives

Any gigs planned now?
Yes I am looking forward to some great shows, with some awesome bands, kicking off at Dudley PaganFest on 23rd August, The Victoria Inn Derby on 30th October, Scruffy Murphy’s Birmingham on 31st October for a Halloween Special and Valkyrain Festival on 22nd November. More gig dates shall be announced soon!

What could you tell to the audience that doesn't know your music yet to invite them to discover your world?
I like to experiment and cross a lot of musical boundaries; I enjoy creating atmospheres that are inspired by my connection to the natural world and shamanic influence. I would say my sound is diverse I am not set in style but rather have my own style, my music is alive with a spirit of its own; it grows as I do, so my music will always evolve. If we stop growing and leaning we are as good as dead and so our creations. Enter my magical world of shamanic metal I dare you ;-p

Three songs of "Brave and Beauty" that should be the most important of your album?
None are more important then another as each song tells a story, is a part of the puzzle that makes up the whole just like all things in this world!

At last, do you already have ideas for your next album?
Yes I have many ideas for the next one but I have spent a lot of time writing & so I want to focus on live shows right now, I am looking forward to performing my own music and showing what I can do but mostly to meeting up with old and new friends & fans

Xavier: Thanks a lot Sakara for your kindness
