Adding a unique twist to Black
Metal,
Progenie Terrestre Pura has injected a healthy dose of Psybient into their atmospheric and progressive sound. The result being one of the most interesting Black
Metal records I’ve heard in a long time with an excellent futuristic vibe to boot. The cover art is definitely a big give away of the kind of music to expect on
U.M.A. Science fiction inspired futuristic Black
Metal with some cool, cosmic atmospheres and in general; an expansive and soothing sound.
Starting off with an excellent ambient intro,
Progenie Terrestre Pura is a great way to start the album. It’s soothing and spacey, creating a vast musical frontier and an enthralling introduction to the album. The first few minute suck the listener in with gentle ambiance, creating a futuristic vibe to the music, a far cry from the usual winter themed atmospherics of most bands, it definitely helps to set them apart from most other Atmospheric Black
Metal bands.
Even when the first signs of metal join the fray U.M.A remains soothing, with Nex’s whispered vocal delivery fitted right into the atmosphere, at times sounding like a futuristic android they definitely compliment the music well although they are never the main focus of the music with the band placing heavy emphasis on the instrumentation and atmospherics of the album.
Genre transfusions are like organ transplants, if the organ is not right for the body then it will be rejected and more often than not the host will die. This makes it particularly difficult for bands looking to create unique and innovative releases to be taken seriously, with some bands seemingly never finding their own perfect niche to work on.
Progenie Terrestre Pura avoids this pitfall, mixing elements of Space Ambient and Psybient music into Black
Metal would usually be a hard thing to pull off with vigor and authenticity. But thankfully
Progenie Terrestre Pura has done it in a way that adds to the music’s value rather than take away from it. The ambient electronics add a whole lot to the album, rather than being entirely the focal point of the music, the ambiance is used in the best way it can. To be used to add to the atmosphere, to create a soothing space like undertone to the album, to add depth, not to detract from the music in anyway. U.M.A is a masterpiece in mixing spacey ambiance in with atmospheric and progressive Black
Metal.
Coming in at full force with an innovative and eclectic musical experience, U.M.A is sure to be one of the most hyped
Extreme Metal albums of the year and a release that will plant
Progenie Terrestre Pura firmly on the map.
