A lot of power metal fans know the name Andre Matos for around 20 years. Of course, you can easily recognize this voice, well-known by bands Viper, Angra, Shaman (Shaaman), metal opera Avantasia, project Virgo... Now we can put in this row one more album from this talented musician – solo effort “Time to Be Free”.

Ok, the album starts with beautiful intro “Menuett”. If you’ve ever heard other albums of Andre, you could notice that he always liked classical music (and we will hear it more on this new album). And then you hear music that probably you waited to hear from Andre Matos.
It’s melodic power metal with a lot of keyboards’ arrangements, different orchestrations (gentle strings and so on), and sometimes you can’t say what is more important: guitar (as should be in metal music), or keyboards, which Andre seems to like quite much.
All the songs are power metal until the last note, as you could understand from the name of the album (rare name, ah? :) ).
Everything is quite the same as was before, but not repeating old melodies, with drive and energy, intense and melodic, changing tempo from fast part to calm and soft. And of course with great vocals.
If you don’t know yet anything of Andre Matos works, this album would be quite illustrative. Here he has everything, starting from good songwriting and good performing and ending with great production.
And in the end of CD – surprise! – “A new Moonlight”, variation for famous classical “Moonlight”, which he did yet in Viper. Of course here it’s rearranged a bit, recorded better and so on.

I’ve been always surprised by boldness of Andre, who did such song, arranged such music and put lyrics. But he continues his experiments. Love for classical music, you know, such stuff… If you have it, even Beethoven will be just a work material for own ideas.
