The future of Metalcore!

In my opinion, Wolves at the Gate is the future of Metalcore. Captors depicts everything that a great Metalcore album desires; Ear-blistering vocals (cleans as well as gutturals), extremely well-polished riffs, ultimately creative breakdowns, some of the catchiest drumming I've heard in a long time (especially in Metalcore), and all-together they are an extremely tight and composed group of guys destined for greatness in the very near future!

Wolves at the Gate mixes both a solid Hardcore sound and a solid Metalcore sound and fuses it into one amazing listening experience. A lot of the credit can go toward the recording quality, because it is nothing short of excellent! You get a clean, crisp feel for every instrument played, and then the vocals are fit in just perfectly.Wolves At The Gate is surely not a veteran band by any means, but the creativity and musicianship these guys possess is beyond amazing. This is their debut album, and a lot of the time that means there is a lot of repetitive riffs, breakdowns, what have you, but Wolves at the Gate kick that stereotype to the curb. Every track is a brand-new listening experience, and one that will surely get you moving! Another thing that amazed me about this album is the pure professionalism in it. Like I mentioned before, every song privileges you with a new experience like any other, and for a band that has only been together for four years, not to mention this being there first full-length, that is something truly special and I think they will go extremely far together.

Wolves at the Gate's vocalists both have very broad vocal ranges. Colin does the majority of the vocals nonetheless, but their guitarist also provides an extraordinary background sound that only compliments them even more. If I were to choose the most talented musicians in Wolves at the Gate, it would probably tie between their vocalist, Colin, and their drummer, Dave, who, unfortunately, is no longer with them. Dave possesses amazing skill, in terms of keeping the tempo going consistently, but he can also alter the tempo on the shortest of dimes, as well as the guitarists, but it's up to them to keep up with their drummer, and they do it exceptionally. Overall, the musicianship this group withholds is simply great. It's going to be interesting to see who they find for a new drummer, because he will have some huge shoes to fill.

Some notable tracks would definitely be tracks 1, 4, 6, and 7. The intro track, "The Harvest" is probably my favorite track off of Captors, simply because it displays everything I mentioned in the previous paragraph. The vocalists very broad range, and overall skill on the mic, the superstar-like ability of Dave on the drums, continuously changing the tempo in a split-second without losing any timing, and the guitarists' ability to maintain the same tempo is incredible. Track number four, "Dead Man" really shows off Dave's creativity with his drumming. He catches you off guard every 30 seconds or so with a completely different tempo. Track number six, "Slaves" is very close to "The Harvest" in terms of being my favorite. Just like The Harvest it combines and displays every musician's skills at their pinnacle. The intro really catches you off guard, and then in comes an eruption in tempo and intensity, making it one of the best songs on the album. Track number seven, "Step Out to the Water" ultimately shows off the skill of both vocalists, although everybody is as tight as before, Colin and Steve blew me away the most.

To conclude Captors, Wolves At The Gate have here a masterpiece. I can not wait for their next work of art. The only thing I'm worried about is that they may have raised the bar a little too high, sort of like The Word Alive did with Deceiver, and especially with their amazing drummer leaving, but we will see. 20/20 for me!

Below is the video for one of their singles, "Dead Man". Truly a work of art!
