Amon Amarth, is a five-piece melodic death metal band from Tumba, Sweden, formed in 1992 and since that time they adopted the
Viking mythology and history. This band has released thus far nine full-length studio albums, one EP, one DVD and seven music videos.
This release entitled (
Deceiver of the Gods) is the 9th full-length album by
Amon Amarth, and it was released on
June 25th, 2013 through
Metal Blade Records and produced by Andy Sneap. This album features a lot of hit songs, actually, most of those tracks included with this record could be considered hits, and that makes this album one of the best melodic death metal albums ever released, for me, it stands at the top of the mountain.
And for the first time, I feel that
Amon Amarth was able to cast
Arch Enemy aside.
Musically speaking, this album features a lot of great solos which could be easily distinguished in “
Deceiver of the Gods”, “As Loke Falls”, “Father of the
Wolf” and “Shape Shifter”. Memorable choruses like the ones in “Father of the
Wolf”, “
Blood Eagle” and “Hel”; great drums and sound FX like those of “
Blood Eagle”; complex drum beats and bridges like those in “Hel”.
Also the vocals that varies from growling to deep growling, the varying tempo speed throughout the whole work.
And it is of great importance to mention the prominent beginning of the 11th track “
Warriors of the North”
The lyrics are nice, well written, simple yet powerful and capable of spreading the whole message these guys are trying to convey.
When it comes to the cover art, I think I have seen different versions of the cover art, and generally speaking they are all
Amon Amarth, but still some are great and tell a huge part of the story behind this release.
A final word, this is one of the greatest metal albums, maybe not just in 2013, and it has a lot of points that counts for the quality of this release; well done
Amon Amarth, true
Warriors of the North.
