Aarni means griffin in the Finnish language. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a
Bathos is the sudden appearance of the commonplace in otherwise elevated matter or style. This is the 1st full length album for this alleged doom metal band from Finland. The songs are mostly in Finnish and 3 songs are in English. They seem to apply new experimental ideas and techniques for a strange style of rock. The music style seems to change every 4 or 5 minutes. Some of the music sounds like 70s pop, then it changes to epic Nordic ballad music, or 60s psychedelic, or jazz, or maybe something with an orchestra feel. There is some flashy guitar play, sometimes with a metal edge. There are a few interesting guitar distortion sounds from time to time. At times acoustic guitar is used and in one song, Niut Net Neru, there are a couple of moments when the guitar takes on an Asian style. The vocals are usually clean, but sometimes they are softly grim. At times, bongos and drums that are usually used in orchestras are used. Sometimes flutes and keyboards are played. Sometimes there are weird sound effects in the background, like distorted keyboards, cuckoo clocks, birds, etc. The music sounds like early Pink Floyd or Popol Vuh. My favorite song is Niut Net Neru.
