Grey Waters is a side project from the members of the Australian Depressive Black Metal band Austere, a band that I really like. Seeing that they had a side project I decided to get the album and I must say I am not disappointed.

The music is of a very high standard and has a large amount of Post-Rock influence. The guitars are played really well, although they retain some Black Metal influence e.g., The Wall of Sound, they sound much closer to Post Rock than to standard Black Metal. The vocals are also of a high standard the singer uses great sounding cleans with the occasional Black Metal rasp thrown in to add effect.

Even though Grey Water's are labelled as Black Metal I wouldn't group them in with bands such as Burzum and Darkthrone the music is far too uplifting and clear for it to be considered traditional Black Metal. I would group them in with bands such as Alcest and Amesoeurs although they have a more Post-Rock vibe to them than either of these two bands.

Basically this album is all the Post-Rock parts Austere have utilised while toning down the Black Metal. It is a very good album and if you are into bands like the previously mentioned Alcest and Amesoeurs I would go pick this up you will not be disappointed. The only bad thing I have to say about this release is the length, it is too short and it often feels like they've stopped when they've really got something going.
