1. DEVELOPMENTS

We get in our own way, tripping on our feet
Filling up our heads too much with words too hard to speak
Drowning in a place, where the night cannot escape
Commit ourselves into the depths, exposed against a page

Caught in a phrase, an echo in our minds
A flash, a flood, and it's burned into our eyes

I can't explain enough, and I won't let it last the night
I'll show you that the image is still there unseen

It's darkest before the light, if we shut our eyes to see
The things that we have lost inside the lines between

Between the black and white, where everything goes grey
And everything's unsaid, undone, and the negative bleeds away
To reveal the memory that we've waited for so long for
The image shifts and the acid drips down the paper to the floor

Caught in a phrase, an echo in our minds
A flash, a flood, and it's burned into our eyes

I can't explain enough, and I won't let it last the night
I'll show you that the image is still there unseen

It's darkest before the light, if we shut our eyes to see
The things that we have lost inside the lines between

We're so nervous to see if we've let too much in
If we—if we were out of focus or out of frame
I know it's a moment of truth, if a recollection reflects reality
Or if it's lost forever

I can't explain enough, and I won't let it last the night
I'll show you that the image is still there unseen

It's darkest before the light, if we shut our eyes to see
The things that we have lost inside the lines between

I can't explain enough, and I won't let it last
The image is still there, unseen

2. INTRODUCED SPECIES

We don't belong here.

In a way we are all connected,
threaded together.
In a way we are all suspended,
bound going nowhere.

Wake up,
walk on the wires.
Defeat and define.
Wake up,
evolve and escape,
Unravel, unmake yourself.

We speak in tongues
and we walk on the wires between,
we don't belong here.
We are the sleeping sickness,
the dancing dreams,
we don't belong here.
We're invaders from the inside,
we're survivors in silver skin.
Shapeless, we move,
unwinding the wires between,
we don't belong here.

So we'll follow, follow down
each knotless fathom to the end.
No more hollow, hollow sounds
of echoes, echoes in our heads.

Wake up,
walk on the wires.
Connect and combine.
Wake up,
react and reshape,
untangle, unmake yourself.

We speak in tongues
and we walk on the wires between,
we don't belong here.
We are the sleeping sickness,
the dancing dreams,
we don't belong here.
We're invaders from the inside,
we're survivors in silver skin.
Shapeless, we move,
unwinding the wires between,
we don't belong here.

It's been a long, long night
and we're still learning how to survive.
Will you walk with me awhile,
and see a world with brand new eyes?
We see the sights,
and we're fighting for our lives.
Will you run?
Will you run?
Will you run?

(It's no longer survival of the fittest,
now that everyone survives.
But we don't want to survive...
...We want to live)

In a way we are all connected,
threaded together.
In a way we are all suspended...

We speak in tongues
and we walk on the wires between,
we don't belong here.
We are the sleeping sickness,
the dancing dreams,
we don't belong here.
We're invaders from the inside,
we're survivors in silver skin.
Shapeless, we move,
unwinding the wires between,
we don't belong here.

3. WEIGHT

I'm down below where the floor is out of focus, pent up and played down, rained in and worn out, picking away at the studs in the boards.
They're all too familiar.
I've been here before.
The air is like lead and I've swallowed what I've said.
I'm a broken machine and a match already burned.
And I'm quiet, all despite the raging in my head, collapsed inside and out until my strength can return.

I'm undone. All I know is the weight of the world, so empty and so uninspired.
Sorrow and sleep and disbelief, caught up in the weight of the world.

I'm down below where it's silent and it's safe, resounding with the question of "Where to, from here?"
I know my direction, I know what it takes, but I'm weak and I'm weightless with everything to fear.
I write about what's real to me when all I feel is make believe, but I won't say there's nothing left.
There's everything, but just out of reach.

I'm undone. All I know is the weight of the world, so empty and so uninspired.
Sorrow and sleep and disbelief, caught up in the weight of the world.

But I'm not helpless; I'm not hopeless.
But I don't believe in hope on it's own, no spine and no substance.

I'm undone. All I know is the weight of the world, so empty and so uninspired.
Sorrow and sleep and disbelief, caught up in the weight of the world.

It's time to see the floor sink around me, pushed down with my two bare hands and now I'm stronger for whatever comes.
Let the blood rush, as I rise to my feet.

4. SHAPESHIFTERS

To know your every detail is a lifetime, a story to tell with a touch
Every move is a reaction, every kiss is a reason, a rush
You're my muse, and you're my masterpiece, my canvas and my chemistry
You're magic and you're mystery, my haven, you're my heaven
You're my heart. We will be unbreakable

Let's take it all, as a reminder we'll never need
Every place we dance, in a way, we never leave
We're toe to toe, side to side, beneath the stars
We will be unbreakable

If I'm the ship then you're the shore
If I'm the soldier you're the war
If I'm the soil then you're the seed
If I'm the puzzle, you're the piece that completes the picture
The safety in the storm, the colour of the rising dawn as the mountains kiss her
We will be unbreakable

Let's take it all, as a reminder we'll never need
Every place we dance, in a way, we never leave
We're toe to toe, side to side, beneath the stars
We will be unbreakable

From up this close, I can't see a thing aside from you in front of me
I can't recall a night this clear, a better light to lead us here
No brighter diamond in the sky than those embedded in your eyes

Let's take it all as a reminder we'll never need
Every place we dance, in a way, we never leave

Let's take it all, as a reminder we'll never need
Every place we dance, in a way, we never leave
We're toe to toe, side to side, beneath the stars
We will be unbreakable

5. THE HOUSE YOU BUILT

You used to know so well those weathered hands
When they were gentle, when the brought the colour to your cheeks
They still do, but not the same, because they turned their back on you
And when she's hiding at your feet, you know you'll stay

These sentiments are second hand
He's fighting for his heart but he is losing ground
She's unintended, not unloved
And you're the one to keep her safe and sound

Don't look down, even though they're looking down on you
The house you build on solid ground will be a home. In time, you'll see it
Don't look down, even though they're looking down on you
The love you build your house around will make it home in time to see them through

Her shoes are scuffed, she drags her feet too much
But baby lift your face, you don't need to justify your place
So stay just what you are, you've come this far
If only I could show your future you would light up like the sun

These sentiments are second hand
She's fighting for your future and she's gaining ground
You are protected, you are loved
So show them who you are and make them proud

Don't look down, even though they're looking down on you
The house you build on solid ground will be a home. In time, you'll see it
Don't look down, because there's no-one looking down on you
Your house is built on solid ground, you'll be just fine
In time, just see it through

Hey little light, aren't you a big achiever?
Hey Mrs Might, I know that you believe in her
Hey Mr Beaten Down, you found your heart again
In the hope you built your house around
You gave your little light
You gave your little light a brand new start

Don't look down, because there's no-one looking down on you
The house you built on solid ground will be a home. In time, you'll see it
Don't look down, because there's no-one looking down on you
Your house is built on solid ground, you'll be just fine
In time, just see it through

6. A TALE OF OUTER SUBURBIA

Pry the darkness from my eyes.
Divided, let the light seep in.
Trees devoid of branches and hollow hives.
An endless black and empty beds.
It's not the same, something's changed.
I never used to be able to see past the trees.
A thousand unfamiliars are lying thick on the air and I can't breathe.

Is our skin to keep the world out or our bodies in?
This doesn't look like home; this doesn't look like home.
Is our skin to keep the world out or our bodies in?
I'll tear apart the town then sleep, and sleep alone.

If I'm a flame, I'm a forest fire speaking savage tongues as I emerge from the hills.
I am an avalanche.
I am unchained.
I'm awoken.
I'll unleash hell.
So I roar, pin back my ears, and stone by stone I'll tear it all, I'll tear it apart.

Is our skin to keep the world out or our bodies in?
This doesn't look like home; this doesn't look like home.
Is our skin to keep the world out or our bodies in?
(This doesn't look like home; this doesn't look like home.)
I'll tear apart the town then sleep, and sleep alone.
(This doesn't look like home; this doesn't look like home.)

I've lost faith, the forest's changed.
My stomach's empty, I'm feeling faint.

I've lost heart, the forest's scarred.
I hear no birds, just TVs and cars.

I've lost faith, the forest's changed.
My stomach's empty, I'm feeling faint.

I've lost sight, the forest's died.
The brambles are bare, and I'm hollow inside.
Each breath rattles like dice in my chest, each breath gambled, unwinding till death.

7. OCEANDUST

There’s no more wind to be found in the sails
Hands full of fallen stars and comet tails

Rivers of sand unentwined through my hands
To know what they've seen, well, my burden’s all pale

I’ll make an hourglass from my fingers
I know I’m only passing through

I don’t want to pretend that I’m stronger for it all
I don’t want to pretend that the sadness is gone
'Cause I wanna know that I’m steady on my feet
I don’t want to pretend so peace will be real to me

There’s no respite to be found in the waves
Each rise and retreat will scrub the blood away

I’ll make an hourglass from my fingers
I know I’m only passing through

I don’t want to pretend that I’m stronger for it all
I don’t want to pretend that the sadness is gone
'Cause I wanna know that I’m steady on my feet
I don’t want to pretend so peace will be real to me

I don’t want to pretend that I’m stronger for it all
I don’t want to pretend that the sadness is gone

I don’t want to pretend that I’m stronger for it all
I don’t want to pretend that the sadness is gone
'Cause I wanna know that I’m steady on my feet
I don’t want to pretend so peace will be real to me

8. NO PARALLELS

This is happiness, to be everything at once.
Be unblinded, be unlearned, be unbridled and unburned.

Heavy on our heels, the rocky ground we leave behind.
Tassels streaming from our necks, we cast a wake amidst the wind.
We're the roamers to the road, barebacked, spirit and in mind.
Oh, to be free like this.

This is happiness, to be everything at once.
Be unblinded, be unlearned, be unbridled and unburned.
This is happiness. I'm fearless and I'm free,
With the open road and the world beneath my feet.

With splinters in our teeth, we're driven from our parallels,
Our path a prison, bound to walk where countless feet already fell.
But there's a wildness in our heart, that we've forgotten in our march,
All to be free like this.

This is happiness, to be everything at once.
Be unblinded, be unlearned, be unbridled and unburned.
This is happiness. I'm fearless and I'm free,
With the open road and the world beneath my feet.

We're branded and we're burdened from the moment we are born.
We're domestic and we're discontent, and we're grinding our gums raw.
Forget your feet and where they fall, lift your head and carry on.

No fear, just faith, no bit, just break the path and let it lead you.
Unknown, unblind, run free, run wild and leave behind what holds you down.

Heavy on our heels, the rocky ground we leave behind.

This is happiness, to be everything at once.
Be unblinded, be unlearned, be unbridled and unburned.
This is happiness. I'm fearless and I'm free,
With the open road and the world beneath my feet.

9. FOUNTAINHEAD

Here I am. The hammer strikes one, two, three.
I'm impatiently tapping my feet
In a murmuring room full of critics and fakers, all waiting to take their seat.

The focus of the room, all bating breath,
Waiting on a single word that could spill from my mouth
That would give them a reason to take me for all I'm worth.

I took the oath to tell the truth, so freely I'll tell you this.
My path's my own and mine alone.

You won't understand. You want what I am,
Forgetting the man inside.
I'm calling you out, so try take me down.

I took infinity from the sky and I made it my own,
But not for you to turn into your personal property.
I will outlast the turning of time, but I know that you're scared of me
And what I can achieve, but I won't be waiting.

I don't use your lungs to breathe, your feet can't walk for me.
So tell me where you take your right to my mind.
Brought the sky down on our heads, never mine to claim, you said.
So tell me where you take your right to my freedom,
My cause for creation, my mind, my direction, my life?

Unlock and engage. Everyone's equal but no-one's the same.
We give what we choose, but we give what we want to, not to be used.

I took infinity from the sky and I made it my own,
But not for you to turn into your personal property.
I will outlast the turning of time, but I know that you're scared of me
And what I can achieve, but I won't be waiting.

I'm the one who lit the fuse. I'm the one who pulled it out from under you.
I'm the one who wears the consequence.
I'm the one who will stay true to myself, so I'll wish you all well.
But I'll take my ideas with me.

10. WISTERIA

This is where we fall, sleepers scattered in the soil
A finger deep, dragged through the ground
A blessed thought in harrowed halls.

We could think of nothing else but what our patch of earth contained,
Reminded by our dirt-stained clothes of planted possibility
In tender ground, as bare as birth, a shoot emerged from beneath the earth.

Mary, Mary, tell me how your garden grows.
Tell me what it takes to come alive, to see what you have sown
Because I've grown into the ground and there are branches in my bones
I am overgrown.

Between two branches, a rope and tire we cast between two worlds,
Each one higher than the last.
I chose the air, chose higher still and left an Eden, found,
But in abandon, lost my grip, and shattered, chose the ground
In unkept chaos, as bare as birth, a garden, grey, of tangled earth.

I've been lying here too long, the branches pushing me apart where weakness showed,
But then September swept the overcast aside,
Dusted off the winter's curse, and she cut me through like knives.
She whistled proudly her season's song and showed me that I was alive all along.

11. A FIRE ON A HILL

It starts with a spark, a breath and a moment of still,
A flicker, a glow, as the oxygen spills through a delta of spindles and stone,
Kindled from nothing in a whisper of smoke.

And there a gift ignites; a cursive thought takes flight,
And there's a dancer, twisting in between the spines.
Give her the breather's kiss, and watch her spirit lift,
She'll take over the stage, and she'll own the night.

Learning how to make a name from the words we can't keep in.
Learning how to strike a flame, and draw hellfire from nothing.

I don't know where to begin, to make these words take shape,
How to nurture a flame, and raise it to a blaze
That on the clearest night can be seen forever.
I don't know where to begin, begin again.

It's not enough, cause outside the night is still cold.
The fog is collected on the sill.
Feed the house to the fire to let out the light,
Consumed and inspired, burned magnesium white.

It spills from the hearth.
Take the curtains, the carpet to fuel the insatiable fire inside.
We'll set fire to a hill, so intense that it will be the brightest star on this side of the sky.

Learning how to make a name from the words we can't keep in.
Learning how to strike a flame, and draw fire from nothing.

I don't know where to begin, to make these words take shape,
How to nurture a flame, and raise it to a blaze
That on the clearest night can be seen forever.
I don't know where to begin, begin again.

I don't know where to begin, to make these words take shape,
How to nurture a flame, and raise it to a blaze
That on the clearest night can be seen forever.
I don't know where to begin, begin again.
