Sylosis is a Death/Thrash metal band from the UK. They are releasing a new album now in September, "Monolith", and getting prepared to tour North America with In Flames and Lamb of God. Check out the interview that SOM did with the band!!!

First of all, could you describe Sylosis to the Spirit of Metal readers?
We're a progressive thrash metal band from Reading [UK]. We're really inspired by old school, bay area thrash but have a penchant for really epic, progressive music. From bands such as Cult of Luna to Rush to Neurosis to Pink Floyd etc. We're a metal band through and through but we try and avoid the cheesy cliche side of things.

You guys are releasing a new album now in October: Monolith. What are you guys bringing “to the table” with this new release?
It's the best representation of us as a band and our influences. At the core we're a thrash band but there are some more progressive touches as well as a lot more doomy aspects. We really wanted this album to have a dark, eerie vibe to it.

This album’s theme was inspired by a Greek tale. Why did you decide writing about this tale?
I actually had the idea for the story and then just borrowed a few extra ideas from Orpheus and Eurydice so it's not really based on it. There are just some similarities. I just like t

o work with a concept as it helps focus the lyrics and makes the album one solid piece.

Edge of the Earth was a really well reviewed album. Did you feel pressured (when making Monolith) to release a new album that would be as popular as your previous one?
Not really because a lot of the music was written before EOTE was even released. We had a lot time before EOTE was released (we had finished recording it months before it was in stores etc) so it hadn't even been reviewed when we began writing for the new album. I guess a lack of pressure did help.

You guys have many influences: from thrash, to death and even death/metalcore. Currently, which styles would describe the band better?
We definitely don't have any metalcore or melodic death metal influences. We're all about the old school thrash and prog rock or doom and sludge metal. I always used to be into early death metal but that's not something we try and bring in too much. No melodic death metal or hardcore.

Sill talking about influences: which are your main influences when talking about ba

nds and artists?
Our influences come from bands like Metallica, Death, Sepultura, Rush, Neurosis, Crowbar, High on Fire, Pink Floyd, Enslaved, Superjoint Ritual etc. We don't really try and hide our influences and they're influences we've had for years.

Talking about tours now: you will be touring in the US with In Flames and Lamb of God. How excited are you?
Beyond excited. We can't imagine a bigger tour at this stage in our career. It's insane and we have to thank Chris Adler so much. He's really pushed to get us that slot.

About this tour: do you think that this tour will bring you more exposure in the US?
Definitely. It's a really long tour and with one of the biggest bands in metal.

You guy have confirmed concerts in the UK and Australia for beginning of 2013. What’s next? Any big plans?
No solid plans yet, just as much touring as possible!
