MonstrO (en)

Would you mind answering these couple of questions for Spirit of Metal?...feel free to elaborate. Thank you.

interview MonstrO1) Hi guys, I’ve just listened to three tracks of your forthcoming debut (or is it out there yet?) and while I was looking on the net for some more information about MonstrO, it turns out that besides myspace, there's not much here. Would you care to introduce MonstrO to the Spirit of Metal community?
Sure why not....its my buddy the riff master Juan Montoya who used to be in Torche , Charlie Chong from Miami singing stuff , and Bevan and myself who stuck together after the demise of bloodsimple. Just got in a room and started mushing mushroom music together and came out with some trippy , heavy , mind bending coolness.

There's a few songs posted on myspace , facebook , and reverbnation

2) From the few songs I had the pleasure to listen to, I see various influences ranging from U2 to Black Sabbath and that almost Baroness distinctive feel particularly on Anchors up. Is your debut going to be all in the same vein or are we in for a few more surprises?
Well the songs we've posted are just the beginning I think its a good representation of where the band is headed and we will just keep expanding. We've since then written and recorded 6 or 7 more with plans to hit studio in a couple weeks to finish
interview MonstrO 3 more. There's no shortage of material with this band , we stay very productive.

3) I see that most members reside in Atlanta except for Charlie Suarez. Does this mean MonstrO will essentially be a “studio” band or are there any plans for live gigs in the US and outside?
Studio band absolutely not. Charlie is up in Atl all the time , and if needed will move on up. It's working the way it is for the moment. We just hit the west coast for 2 LA shows. That is the main plan...record all the time and get the hell out of town , state , country. Live shows is where its at as far as Im concerned , and on stage is where we will be

4) The metal community loves to label bands. They have to fall in certain genres. Would you be content with "stoner prog" or do you feel it is too restrictive? Or let me phrase it differently... Are you guys planning on being the next big thing after Kyuss and the odd couple Mastodon/Baroness?
I really don’t give a shit. If people wanna give us a label to help identify then so be it. No one in the band is trying to write or be a certain type of band. We have a great chemistry and what we produce is what you get. I will say however , every element listeners have picked out has been awesome. they hear all kinds of sounds and similarities. Things we never imagined.

5) Most bands usually release one or two demos or an EP before
interview MonstrO they go full-length. Have I missed something or are you guys going to release your debut out of the blue? Do you not feel it's going a bit too fast or does everyone's CV in the band make it a natural decision?
We're basically just getting all of our ideas down on tape...or disc or what the hell ever. There are labels sniffing around and we're just moving forward. All doors are open right now , we may do an EP , full length , 7 inch , cassette , 8 track...I’m open to anything these days.

6) I wish I had a hundred more questions but there seems to be some halo of secrecy around the band. Three tracks to listen to and one bio won’t help me much, I’m afraid. In case, there’s something you’d really want Spirit of Metal users to know, here’s your chance (but before I let you go on just know that I enjoyed very much these three tracks and I’ll be looking forward to hearing more from you guys!)
Well not trying to be all secret about it all , just taking a different attitude about the whole thing. I want this band to evolve naturally , and it is. We will keep posting songs and we finish and keep drawing in fans and new listeners. If I had to say what I want to see happen in the near future it would be to officially release something with artwork you can have and hold and be on as many stages as we can by end of the year.

Personally, I extremely appreciate the fact of choosing an original musical path instead of following a leader, this way MonstrO would acquire more and more fans just by the unicity of its music.
No shortage of material, strong motivation and original music, I guess MonstrO wouldn't late to reach its purposes!!
