Hi, first, thanks answering this interview. And could you start it with a little biography of your group ?
All the guys in the group apart from Li were originally from a band called Slavestate, we had picked up a good following but were becoming frustrated and wanted to move in a new direction. That was when we stumbled across Li who was playing in a band named Aeon at the time. We approached Li and Myself, Mark and Tewkes started a side project. We soon realised that this was the way forward and decided to bring Li in ending Slavestae and paving the way for a more exciting, and fresher band……

Balance of Silence!

 

“Balance of Silence”… That’s an enigmatic band name…
It is yes. Li came up with the name about a year ago, and we loved it from the moment we heard it. It’s a form of meditation. When your mind is clear and your concentration absolute. For me Balance of Silence is about having a clear mind and achieving the highest possible standard. So as you see this name isn’t only a name, it means something to us.

 

All member of balance of Silence came from very different previous bands… So what did give all of you the envie to play together in Balance of Silence ?
Well as mentioned below we’re all originally from a the same band apart from Li. We started to write in a style that needed a far more versatile vocalist. The hunger to play is absolute. I’ve never felt so focussed on a music project in my life and I know the other guys feel the same.

 

How would you describe your music ?
Its hard to put an exact label on our music, mainly because we hit so many different styles in our tracks. We have anything from acoustic through to technical speed riffage! From good heavy groove style riffing through to intricate guitar soloing. We all believe t

hat being diverse is extremely important and one thing I love about this band is the sheer diversity between the tracks we write. In the end I would describe us a ‘metal’ band, I think that’s easier!

 

Playing a such complex and varied musical style surely represents a long and hard work in order to execute each part perfectly. How do you work all together? What member of the band will bring the basis of a new song ?
Our tracks are composed and written as a band, all of us have input and we wouldn’t have it any way. Li in particular has proven a big improvement. Previously the band would write and compose the music solely and then the vocalist would put his lyrics down. However
Li has a much more hands on approach and we are far more critical of what we write as we have sworn never to throw tracks together.
Tewks and Andy do a cracking job in producing riffs, I’m sure other bands will agree that coming up with a good riff takes a long long time, and they do a great job. Also previously our previous vocalist used to bass too, but he was replaced with Mark who is constantly coming up with amazing bass riffs.. he too has really helped the band to move forward !

Which topics do your new texts deal with ? Where do you take inspiration from (litterature, dreams, personnel thoughts, everyday life…) ?
Li writes all the lyrics, he concentrates on elements of life, and normal every day things that people can relate too. Although his lyrics are serious I do feel that they are very positive, he may point out a particular situation that could drag you down but his lyrics will always tell you to fight on, and never to give up! I like the fact that he steps away from the much used self harm lyrics, and all the depression that seems to motivate bands nowadays.

 

You recently won the Metal Battle 2004, first, what

does it represent for you, and then, what would that change for Balance of Silence.
This was a major boost for us, winning the competition not only upped peoples awareness of the band but it also gave us extra confidence. The Battle itself consisted of some very very good bands, including Niota Featuring Conan Dianno (paul dianno ex-iron maiden vocalists son). There were some very good bands on the day and it was great to walk away with the prize of free recording time! I would also like to note that our Guitarist Tewkes also won Best Guitarist in the midlands Battle!

 

Will a first album be out soon ?
Well we are about to record a few more tracks very shortly so the fans will get a taste of what we have been writing recently. I have to say that I’m very very!! Happy with whats been written since and I’m sure the fans will be happy with our new stuff. To be honest rather than finance a full album I think its just as important to concentrate on the other elements too. Such as Tshirts, Website, Management and advertising.

 

Will French meatheads get the chance to see you on stages soon ?
Well hopefully we should be over very soon. Our management, HIM MEDIA, is currently promoting us and have been doing a brilliant job! Our guy Charles Provost is looking at all avenues and I’m certain we’ll be over in Farnce, so not too long for the French Public!!
