Six Feet Under (USA) (en)

Six Feet Under has just released a new album called Undead. To promote this album, the band has toured the US and will play in Summer Festivals in Europe. But the plans don’t stop there: they have many things lined up for this year and 2013, including: Barge to Hell, more tours and wait…. another album!!! Check the chat that SOM had with the lead singer Chris Barnes on June 24th in West Hollywood.

interview Six Feet Under (USA)Six Feet Under has just released a new album around a month ago. Can you tell us a little bit about this work?
Yeah. We released a new album, Undead, in the end of May this year. It seems that everyone is enjoying it. All the fans have kind of pick up on it. Yeah… got a lot of good things said about it from the fans and from the press, so…

So, everything said by the press and fans have been pretty positive so far?
Yeah, it’s been better than usual (laughs).

Six Feet Under had a few lineup changes lately. How was doing this new album with the new band members?
Oh, it was great. I loved working with everyone that worked on this album and the group of songs that we worked on for the whole year and a half that we worked on this album. So, it was a lot of fun and it was really effortless… good ideas came out of it.

How was it for the new members to adapt to the live concerts?
The new guys are great, you know? We are having a blast. We haven’t done anything devious to them yet though (laughs). I think that at the last show of the tour Ola and Jeff may be tied to a pole somewhere and left [there, left behind].

Every album has different characteristics. When comparing Undead to your previous albums …what is different about it?
I think that: having different writing partners and the production is a lot better because I didn’t do it (laughs), basically. It is just a different type of album; it is a different group of songs. I don’t really look at it; I don’t try to critique the stuff I’m involved with or anything [like that]. I just kind of take it one song at a time. If the song is heavy I’m into it (laughs).

interview Six Feet Under (USA)>You are promoting this album with this tour with Revocation and Dying Fetus. How has it been so far?
Great! Awesome! I love the guys in [Dying] Fetus, the guys in Revocation are really cool too. We’ve worked with the [Dying] Fetus guys in a couple of different tours, you know, some European dates back in the old days and last year too. So, it has been a lot of fun.

Are there any other plans to promote this album, like video clips, for example?
Ah, we haven’t spoken about video clips yet. I don’t think they are really too keen on doing those anymore, just because there is no real outlet other than youtube for them. It might be a possibility in the future but I don’t know… we’ll see. I wouldn’t mind doing one (laughs).

Any plans until the end of the year?
Yes. Summer Festivals in Europe and we are going to try to do another tour in the States in [the] October time period. And then we have the Barge to Hell in December, that’s going to be fun.

Any special plans for the two shows in Barge to Hell?
There are two concerts? I don’t know what the whole deal is. What do you think Steve [Steve Swanson was sitting next us]? There are two different sets for that Barge to Hell that we have to play. Is it on the same day?

No, it is usually well distributed. Usually it is on 1st and 3rd day or 2nd and 4th. You also have the “day off” to go to the island, so… At least that’s how it was on 70K tons of metal this year.
Ohh… I like this whole thing. This is going to be fun. Well, now that I know it is two sets we might have to do something extra special for that second set. Like… something we have never done before.

interview Six Feet Under (USA)About future plans: you have released 3 “Graveyard Classics” albums. Was that a trilogy or do you have plans to do something else like that?
No…. it was just thought [up] as a 3 part thing. I don’t know. If something happens and we want to do it again, we’ll see but, I don’t think we are going to do another one. I would just do a surprise cover song live, or something [like that]. That would be more fun. Something we’ve never done, you know?

At one of the metal Blades videos you said you would probably like to skydive one day. Have you done that already?
No, I have not done that. The place that is close by has had a few mishaps there, so, I’m really not interested in that right now. Yeah, that will maybe be something for the future (laughs).

So, when you are not touring or working with the band, what do you like to do?
Ahh… playing video games (laughs). I’m pretty boring. Going to the beach and stuff like that…

Going back to Six feet under: any plans for 2013?
Hopefully keep touring. We have a bunch of songs to be released, maybe in another album, early part of next year, so… let see what happens.

Really? Already? Are you guys working on this new album? Is it going to be in the same “direction” as Undead?
It’s pretty much done. We’ll see… it is a little bit different.

So… this will be a surprise for next year…
Yeah… there is going to be a few surprises probably (laughs).

Any messages to the SOM readers?
Just thank you, I’m glad everyone is enjoying the new record… have fun!
