Biography : Infection (PER)

Infection is a Peruvian death metal band with influences from the thrash and deathgrind scene. To this date the group has released two EPs (“Nothing but Scum” and “Beheaded Children Contest”) and two full-length albums (“Necrokindergarden” and “Acrotomophile Mutilator”.) Since their formation, their passion for doing music has not declined. On the contrary, they keep the flame of metal alive and expect to consistently deliver brutal music to the world.

The band formed in 2006 when guitar player Antonio Palacios decided to partner up with vocalist Giuliano Canessa. Both shared the same interest in bringing back the rawness of early death metal. Inspired by such acts as Death, Cannibal Corpse and Monstrosity, they started composing and rehearsing their own songs. ‘It was the perfect time to brought that vicious sound back,’ stated Antonio. ‘I always wanted to be in a group that played this kind of music,” added Giuliano, pointing to a pile of discs in a shelf where one can distinguish Death’s “Leprosy,” Morbid Angel’s “Altars of Madness,” and Suffocation’s “Souls to Deny.” Although they were the only fixed members of the band, other talented musicians joined them in order to perform in several venues in Lima, the capital city of Peru. They could have not anticipated the good reception in each of those concerts.

After releasing the “Nothing but Scum” EP in 2008, their first full-length album entitled “Necrokindergarden” saw the light in 2009. “Acrotomophile Mutilator” was the title of Infection’s second LP, and it was released in 2014. “Beheaded Children Contest,” the band’s fourth record, is an EP that contains five original tracks and one cover song of grindcore fathers Napalm Death. The music continues the same direction as its predecessor: vicious death metal spiced up with touches of thrash and grind. It shows, in addition to that, an improvement in the sound department, thanks to the work of Fredrik Nordström, who re-amped guitars at the legendary Fredman Studios facilities in Gothenburg (Sweden.) Mixing was done by Antonio Palacios at // Kill the Pixel Now Studio. Once again, the band trusted John Scrip from Massive Mastering to infuse a warm and full-bodied finish to the tracks. The ice of the cake is the sick artwork by Dechristianize Art, inspired by the cruel and perverted acts of Fifteenth-Century serial killer Gilles de Rais. The song that gives title to this album was, as well, based in his gruesome killing spree. “Beheaded Children Contest” was released under the Gate of Horror Productions label on August 15th 2020.
