...Holy crap.

Ambient black metal, to me, is one of the best genres ever. Mixing the anger and fury of black metal with pure, black, and dark atmosphere, to me, is a match in heaven. It's a shame that there is such a lack of it. We have Vinterriket, sure, but the discography of Vinterriket is inconsistant to say the least.

There are a few other forgettable bands in the genre, too.

Then we have Darkspace. Who mix the message of the bleak nothing of space, and making dark, majestic, and ambient black metal out of it. And thank the heavens they do.

In the genre of ambient black metal, these guys are the utter cream of the crop. A true underground gem, if you will.

It's also worth commending the length of this CD, too, clocking in at nearly 80 minutes. Which is a lot longer than your average CD.

Whats to say? It's a mix of cosmic synth, dark and low tuned black metal, and pure ambience to create dark, masterful, and makestic vibrations on a circle.

The production leaves a lot to be desired, some of the sounds are a little unbalanced and sometimes you get a little bit of fuzzing, but this is actually a very good production compared to a lot of underground black metal CDs out there. It trully does consume you into its black hole, and explodes into a supernova.

The seven songs on this album are each great in their own way, and some of them are very long (Dark 3.17 is nearly 17 minutes), and each one drives ambience and black metal to its utter extremity and limit, pushing the boundaries of this genre.

Some songs are better than others, but ultimately, this is probably THE best ambient black metal release ever. It shows how much of a good year 2008 was for utter classic gems of different genres, and this is up there with the best of them.

Darkspace sucks you into their bleak, blackened world, and keeps you there in a sense of anger, fear, and mostly, a dark majestic music experience you really can't afford to miss if you're into the genre. Do not make the mistake of finding this album.

It's difficult to reccommend, though. The songs are very progressive, and will bore people who don't appreciate it. But if you do, you're making one of the biggest mistakes not getting this album.

Highlight songs: Dark 3.13, Dark 3.14, Dark 3.17. But all of them are great.
