Here' what I think of Slayer:
A less monotonous version of Cannibal Corpse, they have more variety and range, and their first two albums were great. Seasons also had its fair share of awesome tracks, but a few kinda sucked.
Now, I wanna bring this up...
WHY is Reign in Blood considered such a masterpiece? I honestly think Reign is the most overrated metal album ever. It's just a mess of stuff happening too fast to really suck you in, the only good songs were Angel of Death and Postmortem. The title song wasn't bad, either. But the rest... yuck.

It's still a good album to listen to. I don't consider it a Masterpiece by any standard (no matter how good Angel of Death is), but I do consider Seasons to be a masterpiece.

Reign in Blood (sentimental reasons)
Divine Intervention (i just think it's badass)
Seasons of The Abyss ( also just badass)

Show no mercy..probably the best Slayer's album ever..
Every band's first album is usually the best..
Pure and perfect..

I actually like Divine Intervention a bit more than Seasons, personally. Divine has a really weirdly dark and Cold, yet mechnical feel to it that I haven't heard in many other Thrash Metal albums. It's sure as Hell not as great as their 1983-88 era, but it has some truly excellent songs on it. ("Killing Fields", the hyperfast D.R.I influenced "Dittohead", the title track and "Mind Control" all are excellent songs.)

Actually, i'm extremely hard pressed to name a Thrash Metal band more consistent than Slayer were in their prime. Only Sepultura's thrash era compares, IMO.

You just made me Burst out laughing in the middle of my Multimedia class.

Seriously, my favorite Slayer album would probably be Show No Mercy, although Hell Awaits is close... but I've only heard Hell Awaits all the way through one time so I think that if I gave Hell Awaits a few more listens it'd probably rise to being my favorite from them.
Anyway, I like Show No Mercy because Slayer can actually play decent solos that doesn't sound like Kerry King started having a seizure in the middle of playing his guitar. Like, the solos in Antichrist and especially Crionics are really awesome. And there're a lot of classic-tastic awesome songs on there that are remeniscent of NWOBHM-- Tormentor, Black Magic, Face the Slayer... just awesome. And I really like that NWOBHM Element that I mentioned before, it really works with Slayer. Much better than all that yelling BS they do now.
...I'll have to try out Hell Awaits again though.
