Welllllll I wouldn't say their pictures are 'faggy'... just plain ridiculous.
Every genre of music has its image, and these guys have a punk image. Maybe old Enigmatick is right. Lemme go hear a song by these guys...

Righty-o, I'm listening to 'Pray for Plagues'...
Okaaaaaay.
Sounds too similar to Suicide Silence, except the riffs are just a little bit better... still redundant as all Hell though. And oooh, here it comes! THE CHUGGING.

Alright so this is pretty generic stuff right here, but this band has more that relates them to metal than the vocal approach. So yeah, I would call these guys metal. Not good metal, for sure, but still metal.

The way I see it, if a metal band feels the need to have a photoshoot to make them look cool or Evil, then they really don't deserve any respect by the metal community. It's essentially 21st century glam metal. I SAW a scene kid wearin a Bring Me The Horizon t-shirt with a picture of the band In corpse paint, that's just insulting to Black Metal fans.

WHAT?
WHAAAAAAAAAT?
Man, I'd kinda flip if I SAW that. Are you sure it isn't photoshopped?
But meh, modern Black Metal bands do their glammy photoshoots now too, and that is the biggest Insult to Black Metal fans. Okay look at this:

Way, WAAAAAY over the top and goofy. Now, how the band looked when they formed:

Over the top still, but it looks good, and it isn't laughably goofy.

I really almost said something to this kid, it was definantly a Bring Me The Horizon shirt, a friend of mine was forced to go to hot topic recently against his will and told me he SAW the same BMTH merchandise there, it's some guy in corpse paint tryin to look scary and shit.

In some Black Metal it is

What the fuck? no it's not. There's far more at work that makes Black Metal black...METAL. Riffs, song structure, atmosphere, you name it.

Also; responding to multiple people metal =/= harsh vocals and heavy riffs. That's also found in various subgenres of Hardcore punk.

Well, there is a lot of Death Metal influence and Metalcore influence...
but the riffs are put together in a different way than the simple 3-chord punk riffs. Even though they're slopped together in the worst way, they have different conventions. And I don't listen to punk, so I don't know if punk has chugging in it or not, but chugging is kind of a big Sign of metal. ...Crappy metal, to be sure, but whatever.

I can see where you're coming from with your opinion, so I don't mind. = P

I dunno, this is Hardcore, and is has a lot of chugging in it too. (Although Hatebreed probably isn't the best example since they're more metallic than a lot of Hardcore bands, but you get my drift.)

Oh, and I listened to that Medusa song, and it fucking sucked. Didn't change my opinion on BMTH in any way.

I don't really bother if a BM band does a 'glammy' photoshoot. In some case it does have something: I don't find those Dimmu Borgir photo's bad at all. BUT I DO prefer the raw, low-quality, monochromatic photoshoots of the old school Bm bands (thinks in the direction of A Blaze In the Northern Sky, Hellhammer (band), etc).

About that kid with that BMTH shirt, that's a serieus Insult that little kid did. That's what I Hate really about the Deathcore mentality, they think they can do everything. They see Deathcore as the greatest and most important genre. They forget their 'creation' is only a few years old while genres like BM or Death Metal have a history of 20 years or more.
In my school, there's also a deathcore/hardcore guy. He was in my class in the first year of high school. He thinks his music is Superior to any form of metal I listene to etc. he calls BM an 'untrue' form of metal and calls metalheads weaklings. Okay, I had to force me not to punch him till dead...
