InfinityZero says : Aw, come on Merc, Beherit ain't that bad and they certainly can't be overrated. Not too many people talk about them. Out of interest though, what have you heard of them? I agree that Oath of Black Blood is a lot worse than it's made out to be (basically it's Bathory's debut album except messier in instrumentation), but DDTM was pretty damn good, not to mention creepy to boot.

I've heard Drawing Down the Moon, Engram, their assorted demos, those two ambient albums that sucked and their newest one. I will give DDtM a few more listens, but a the moment I feel that it's just dull.

And wait... didn't you say that Drawing Down the Moon was overrated? http://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/Beherit/Drawing_Down_the_Moon/1297/ImpureSoul

Beherit wasn't always as popular as they are now. Back in the 90's they were seen as a Giant joke, it's only with the internet nowadays that they seem to have gained respect (this is what I've heard mind you)

it's not for everybody. I love it all but it's not for everybody.

I gotta go with pavel on Von, too- yes, it's utterly simplistic and dumb, but when you start to look at the reasons why the band would do something like this- why they would go for such an approach- you start to see that that's what they wanted you to think all along. The music is genuinely demonic in a way that I can't describe. It's not an enjoyable album musically by any Means, but it's not supposed to be.

Beherit was one of the bands that got me into Black Metal and they are one of the only bands where I think their really really old stuff is better than their new music. Bottom line is that I don't think that Beherit is overrated at all

Oh, I forgot--you're the guy that expresses dislike for a band by hearing everything they've ever made. 0
BTW, Engram is their newest release.
I seem to remember saying it was 'overrated but still good' or something like that. I still really enjoy DDTM.

Well, I have to listen to every bit of a band to make sure there is something I actually enjoy by them.

Nope. They released an album they recorded in 1990 two months ago. At The Devil's Studio 1990.

Not sure if I said these guys yet.

At The Gates
-Gardens of Grief and The Red In The Sky Is Ours are near-flawless albums... but the rest. People Worship the rest even though they are the reason so much metal sucks these days. Slaughter of the Soul is absolutely horrible.

Also, I finally got into every Death album... except I still Hate TSoP.

A big ol' thumbs up to you sir.

Slaughter of the Soul and Heartwork are the snake's Head responsible for all the shitty metal that comes out nowadays. All of it.

I've never fully gotten into them and I think I've already passed them into a "better place"

Yeah, no. One album can't be responsible for "all the shitty metal. . .all of it" nowadays. You sir, are wrong. Fair enough it may have pioneered the way for other melo death bands that are influenced by At The Gates, but if they were really influenced by them wouldnt they check out their whole discography, and comprise their music with similiarities, not totally ripping off one album? Either way, we are neither wrong nor right.

(I actually really like Slaughter of the soul.)

Don't forget In Flames, At The Gates didn't do it all themselves
