Slaughter of the Soul and Heartwork are the snake's Head responsible for all the shitty metal that comes out nowadays. All of it.

Yeah, no. One album can't be responsible for "all the shitty metal. . .all of it" nowadays. You sir, are wrong. Fair enough it may have pioneered the way for other melo death bands that are influenced by At The Gates, but if they were really influenced by them wouldnt they check out their whole discography, and comprise their music with similiarities, not totally ripping off one album? Either way, we are neither wrong nor right.

(I actually really like Slaughter of the soul.)

Every shitty Metalcore band these days is influenced by them. A shit load of bands these days actually become clones of that album (seriously). Of course they wouldn't check out their whole discography; do you really think Metalcore folk would like The Red In The Sky Is Ours? Nope.

Mini, you may like SotS, seeing as you like modern metalcore. If you don't, attempt to get into TRitSiO.

When I said "all the shitty metal" I should have been more specific, I was mainly referring to Gothenburg melodic death and all the American melo-core offshoots of that style. Sure, At The Gates and later Carcass didn't DIRECTLY influence all of those bands, they were just the ones that started it all. Yes, one album can be responsible. I can assure you, if Slaughter of the Soul were not released, shitty melodic death as we know it would not exist.

Also, how the Hell do you know how bands make their music? Sometimes a bunch of people will hear an album like Slaughter of the Soul and say "man, this stuff SLAYS! We should make some shit that sounds like this, the music world needs more of it" They don't "explore their discography and comprise their music with similarities" whatever the Hell that means.

At The Gates
-Gardens of Grief and The Red In The Sky Is Ours are near-flawless albums... but the rest. People Worship the rest even though they are the reason so much metal sucks these days. Slaughter of the Soul is absolutely horrible.

Also, I finally got into every Death album... except I still Hate TSoP.

I started this topic with At The Gates

Really? Dammit. Well, with an album like SotS, they're worth mentioning twice.

Sacred Reich. Ignorance and Surf Nicaragua are alright Thrash Metal releases, but The American Way is one of the most tepid albums i've ever heard. It's not because it's mid-paced thrash band all, but because it has literally some of the blandest, most boring riffs i've ever heard on a Thrash Metal album, and the rest of the band doesn't fair much better.

Oh yeah, "31 Flavors". I don't even know what to fucking say about that. It's bad. It's real bad dudes.

Oh yeah, I Forgot about how lame 31 flavors was Sacred Reich were always "just ok" to me, Independent wasn't too bad, but the American way was pretty boring. They weren't the first thrash band to try that whole "thrash/rap" shit that had a short lived stint in the 90's... Thanks Anthrax.

Dream Theater
-I have attempted so many times to get into this band, but to no avail. They seem to have everything in their music, yet I can't enjoy it for some reason. If you wonder why I persist in attempts: I see reviews everywhere praising some of their albums.

Images & Words and Awake are the only good Dream Theater records IMO, and even then they have some pretty severe problems. They're talented instrumentalists, but they have major problems when it comes to songwriting and structure.

Dissection
-Another case similar to Obscura; the band is/was extremely talented, the songwriting is great, but something about it bores me out of my mind. The good thing is these guys don't resort to wank like Obscura did on Omnivium, so I may give these guys another chance.

EDIT: I like Dissection now. They aren't amazing, but they're pretty good.
