I always felt that Exhorder had a very groove focused structure to them.

At The Gates
-One good album (first one), 2 decent albums and one shitty album. How Sad that the shitty album is loved.

Disarmonia Mundi
-Very talented band and songs are well constructed, but their sound is very, very dull Beyond that.

Bloodbath
-Soulless attempt to make old school Death Metal, and people absolutely love them.

Amaranthe
-When it comes to extremely poppy metal, I'll stick to Blood Stain Child. This stuff is just catchy, but not in the good way.

At this point, I honestly think just as many people love The Red in the Sky is Ours at this point, at least on the internet. That album gets its dick sucked like no tomorrow.

and Bloodbath makes some seriously catchy shit. Don't love 'em, but really, Bloodbath over most modern tech death, which one would you take?

Agree with you on Disarmonia Mundi though, they're pretty shit. Never even heard of Amaranthe before this.

Eh... well, yeah I guess their first one is loved abroad also.

And I don't find Bloodbath catchy at all. Their stuff is just boring as hell. I prefer modern tech death (excluding Obscura, Viraemia, Brain Drill and a few others) to Bloodbath... though I must admit Peter's growls on their second album are badass.

How is this NOT catchy? Listen for that "weeeooooweeeoooo" part, you'll know it when you hear it. Awesome. This song in particular i really like.

Also, yes, Tagtgren sounds badass.

I'll admit that one part was pretty catchy, but I still found it boring. Their sound seems to me a Far more Brutal Gothenburg-esque sound. It seems strange how a line-up THAT good could make music so dull.

I agree with Bloodbath. I guess they're fun for what they are, but honestly every time I remember listening to something like Unblessing the Purity I thought 'fuck I should've just put on Covenant instead'.

I gotta confess that I don't like Malevolent Creation all that much. I mean, they're not an awful band; I like Retribution. But they've never really been all that much of a standout band to me; they definitely have their moments here and there, but they're just sort of an average band for me in general.

I agree with enig, although he will agree to disagree with my choice. I like The Fathomless Mastery. . . alot. It's lyrics are awesome, although a bit generic; the vocals of Akerfeldt are Beyond comprehension and their music is fucking catchy as hell. Their music works well, its not one big fucking mess. Check out Treasonous; it flows perfectly.
I've heard a couple songs from their previous album with tagtren, and i must say Eaten is still one of my favourite songs by them. It was the first song i heard by the band, and the song that got me into them.

But i respect your opinions cos yous' know a Hell of a lot more about metal than i do.

(E.g Im still not totally sure what a blastbeat is. I've always thought it was the use of the double bass, as in fast double bass, but i read a bit somewhere saying that is was also the use of symbols?)

oh no... it's not that.

To put it simply, it's just a style of drumming that is associated with Extreme metal (eg Death Metal & Black Metal). There are a whole bunch of different types of blast beats aswell (eg Gravity blasts)

A repeating sixteenth note done on the snare and hi-hat.

Blast beats can be done on one Kick drum. Mick Harris and Pete Sandoval, to name a couple of famous examples, used to perform them on one Kick drum. (I know Sandoval didn't know how to play double bass until he joined Morbid Angel in 1988)
