They're more tolerable than other deathcore... but maybe I'm only paying attention to the post-rock stuff.

I seriously Hate Meshuggah for popularizing that fucking technique (djent). Every band these days is trying to use it, with about 95% of them being shit.

More overrated stuff:

Arsis - Good, but definitely not the Godsend the Metal Archives shows them to be... like holy shit.

Obscura - Rant time. I don't care if I mentioned these guys before, I fucking Hate these guys. How anyone can enjoy this is Beyond me. Retribution was good, Cosmogenesis was decent, and then they release Omnivium. The beginning of it is quite good, but then it turns into a cacophonous fluster of technical wankery. The bass is offbeat without contributing to the melody, the drumming is technical as Hell but stale. The vocals almost remind me of Deathcore; going from really high to really low. The chugging parts are out of place and even those become full of wankery. Whenever there is a quiet part, it occurs abruptly, but guess what? More fucking wank. The melody gets churned awkwardly within the middle of riffs and the vocals Screw that up even more. The riffs themselves aren't memorable at all. The only good part was the acoustic intro. People are praising them as one of the best modern bands when they are just Necrophagist but even more soulless. Rant over.

Last.fm: Mercenarion

On the contrary actually, I can really feel Cosmogenesis. I know a lot of people think it's really fruity, but they actually seem to harness the melody better and use it to their advantage. It's like Death Metal from AN OUTER SPACE DREAM

That being said, I haven't heard the new one, and I probably won't ever listen to it after that rant

EDIT: To put it into perspective, I enjoyed Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music more than this album.

Last.fm: Mercenarion

That Contortionist track was Nothing good. It wasn't outright insulting or horrendous either, but the 'interludes' and varying moments seemed really forced and contrived, and they didn't fully describe the band's generic sound. I guess there are some nice isolated moments, but as a full track it just doesn't mesh cohesively. What they do use as interludes is really simple and doesn't provoke atmoshpere at all because it's relatively uninteresting. I like that riff around the 40 second mark, but I think I've heard riffs quite similar to it from Mors Principium Est albums before. It's technical and the musicians are skilled, but songwriting is a mess. There are WAY too many bands out there today that can tear their instruments a new asshole while having Nothing to show for it.
Not something I would but in my CD collection, for sure.
