ehh, lol? What do you call shit albums of Slayer? Diabolus was indeed a horrorpiece but the others were okay to pretty good. World painted Blood wasn't that bad

They spew out the same thing time after time, and Nothing new surprises me or catches me off guard. They try much too hard to be badass gnarly metal but it all sounds terrible. Some riffs are catchy, some riffs are headbangable, but honestly, how hard is it to make a song that fits both of those categories? Also, Araya's vocals are now some of the most irritating I know. Just extremely-annoying shouts? It's pitiful.
At least before 1990 the shouts had some Power, but now it sounds hoarse and extremely amateur. Solos are Nothing more than guitar wankery with no semblance of melody, direction or reason. They're pooped randomly into songs and they consist of a billion wammy squeals at 4000 bpm, and they almost never vary. Their newer albums have almost no variety in songs, Mood, atmosphere or tempo. There's almost never any downtime (that doesn't suck), making each album seem monotonous within chaos. A lot of riffs are bland and faceless now, and I realize that this makes the 'hook' riffs stand out but when I'm waiting for something interesting to come at me, I get frustrated quickly.
The only thing that ever stays consistently good with Slayer is Lombardo's drumming... oh wait, he didn't stay with the band the whole time. Oh well.

dude, what? first of all, how can you compare cob with Slayer ? totally different music. Live performances? I have never seen cob live, because I have no interest in their music- but I've seen Slayer twice. How was it, you may ask. Perfect sounding, ideal setlists, definitely my top 5 concerts ever. How about solos? I've never heard anyone playing solos like Slayer. They're unique. They're not ment to be melodic or catchy. If you don't get them, listen till you will there is a shitload of bands that think that creating catchy and headbangable riffs is easy. that's what most of new wave bands think. and that's why they are wrong - and that makes them shitty. About vocals - of course, Araya is not as raw as when he was young, but he had a really big health problems that affected his ability of singing and shit - did he quit? fuck no! He's still spitting Hatred and he's not willing to stop. Slayer being overrated ? Slayer is the only that well known tharsh metal band that can compete with less known bands- Atrophy, Evildead, Mandator or Mortal Sin, to name just a few. big four of thrash metal? I beg your pardon... It took Metallica only few years till they sold themselves with The Black album. Anthrax? oh, please, what are they even doing next to Slayer? Megadeth's first albums were awesome, but when Dave got Sober he's music became shitty. there are few bands that should be mentioned next to Slayer- Dark Angel, Forbidden, Testament, Exodus, etc. but I don't even have to think about it - Slayer was the most important Thrash Metal band back then, and even nowadays they still Kick fucking ass. Cheers !

Yeah, Slayer pushed the boundaries of metal and influenced tons of Extreme metal, Hell, they still influence bands today, I'm sure, even if their newer output isn't fantastic. Dislike them, sure, but they're not overrated. Any praise they get is perfectly warranted.

I love them, by the way.

I wanna reiterate that I like Slayer's first 5 albums.
But nowadays...
they're overrated.
I'm okay with Insane shredding solos that fly all over the place... if they're well-placed in the song. These days it feels like Slayer poops a solo right in the middle of the song for absolutely no reason at all and it makes the whole song come to a complete halt while I wait for Kerry King to finish jerking off his guitar.
Slayer was probably second-most important to Metallica in thrash--ironic I say that because yes, Metallica is overrated as well (except I like Metallica much more than Slayer).
Seasons, Hell Awaits and Show No Mercy were all great, Reign in Blood was dumb (sorry), and I have yet to hear South of Heaven, but I think I'll get around to that one eventually. I've heard 3-5 songs from GOD Hates Us All, Christ Illusion, and World Painted Blood, and they were all mediocre.

Reign in Blood is a Brutal masterpiece. Also of course they're past their prime, at this point they could release an album with fucking elevator music on it and sell thousands of copies. Cut 'em a bit of slack, they worked hard to get their massive cult fanbase they have today.

Incoming an opinion...

Reign in Blood has 2 good songs: Raining Blood and Angel of Death. Those two are legendary, but the rest of the album is just Slayer playing really fast.

Reign in Blood is a good album in it's whole. his Means that you have to listen to it in one piece. i listen to Raining Blood and Angel of Death stand alone but never the other songs like piece by piece. If you plqy the qlbum in one go (about 30 mins) the other fast songs get a better place than just listening to them seperate

'just Slayer playing really fast' ? seriously? Slayer defined Thrash Metal with their first three albums. SNM was clearly inspired by Venom and Judas Priest, like most of the TM bands in those years. Hell Awaits is a Masterpiece, compositions are Sick, every song is different. This album is faster and heavier than SNM, but it still has this 'evil vibe' like their debut. Reign in Blood is one big fucking song. there is no point to listen to single songs from this album because it wasn't the concept. I don't know how long you guys have been listening to Thrash Metal, or metal generally, but Slayer definitely changed everything with RiB. There are only a few records that can compete with Slayers third album, but I know which one gets the first place. anyways, at first I didn't like World Painted Blood so much, but after I've heard those songs live, I can easily say that this album is a killer.
