Can I make a contribution to this?
Not wanting to interfere too much here, but if E's explination wasn't good enough for you, Beth, here's what I think of CoB:

Their music is reduntantly glazed over and watered-down, feeling sugary and corny, while going under the false flags of Extreme metal. The vocals have no range or Power at all. Sure the music is all melodic but CoB is melodic without passion or feeling or... anything. They're extremely flat, a cardboard cutout band that have no depth to them at all. What they try to pass off as something more feels pretentious and dry.
Nothing stands out and the songs flow in an unnaturally awkward way. Chorus/verse structure is present, so it may be a little weird for me to say that, but the choruses/verses mesh horribly, not flowing at all. It feels like the music constantly goes over hurdles or slams into walls. It's just...
poo.

Yeah, that was probably a better description than mine. They're kind of Extreme without any extremity, and melodic without any sense of melody. Worst of two worlds, I suppose.

Right I keep my point

they're a band with a good composition
the keyboards are placed at the right time in the music
great guitars great lyrics great drums
they are always improved and they are all good in the things they do
and it's a good band to see

but whatever

Most of us are fine with those who don't speak English on here, don't worry. We have many French folk here on the forum.

I agree with Barb. I deffinately do not know as much as Enig or Merc, but i like CoB. . . alot. It's like Merc with Death, only reversed. I like their stuff, not matter how "watered" Down it may seem to the experienced. I might seem a little (alot) naive, but hey, i like what they produce. I like Are you dead yet, (Here comes the bagging out) Blooddrunk, HCDR , Relentless reckless forever and i've heard a bit of Follow the Reaper (sounded good).

Same here, CoB was one of my first 'heavier' metal bands and I'll keep liking them

ryan, not only do you like CoB, but you actually like their WORST albums! At leats check out Hatebreeder and listen to Follow the Reaper more if you want something that's not totally horrible.

CoB was one of the bands I listened to when getting into metal as well; that doesn't mean anything, really, their music is rather vapid so it wears off on you, stuff doesn't age well.

I don't think CoB is that bad, I used to listen to them a lot some years ago. Not to mention a concert is still worth going to. I find them more creative and entertaining than Slayer, for example.

Sure, they are wanky, but their songs are good and enjoyable. Anyway, I would find it a lot weirder if the band didn't have any commercial success - they are very accessible to people that either 1. start getting into metal or 2. for ones that like trad metal/hard rock/power metal and want to try listening to Extreme genres.

CoB isn't the worst band in the world, but the reason they were brought up here is 'cause they're just way overrated for a band that's so bland.
But I can agree about what you said about stage presence--I went to a CoB concert even though I strongly didn't like their music, but there hadn't been any metal shows in a while, so anyway...
I've seen CoB and Slayer, and CoB did a better job performing despite my liking Slayer better. (I only like Slayer's old stuff, but at the Slayer show I went to they played all songs from Seasons, two from Reign in Blood and two from their shit albums).
Anyway, since Diabolus Musica and onwards Slayer has been a band that's unbearable to listen to, while CoB just gets on my nerves, so if you compare modern CoB with modern Slayer, I like CoB better, even though I Hate both bands these days.

...So yeah, Slayer's grossly overrated.
Anyone agree with me?
