Yeah, try Lunar Strain (that's their best) and Jester Race. Songs I'd recommend is their title song, Behind Space, and Dead Eternity. Don't try anything from Reroute to Remain and onward.

I remember having fun once, it was terrible...

I have discovered Depressed Mode and I have to say, they are one of the best melodic Death Metal bands I've heard (sounds like Dark Lunacy, but more Evil).

I tend to be extremely picky when it comes to melodic Death Metal - I only like Dark Tranqullity put of the major bands that came from the Gothenburg scene, aside for early At The Gates (Gardens of Grief to With Fear era). Arghoslent bores me to death.
 
But I do really like some of the earlier bands, though, like Unanimated, Eucharist, Decameron, and a couple others.
