I think that the new album was mostly handled by Trey when it came to songwriting duties.

I'm getting pretty fuckin Sick of people who defend Morbid Angel because "hey, they just wanted to try something new"...it's not he EXPERIMENT that we Hate, you morons, it's the fact that the experiment FAILED. Honestly, it wasn't horrible, but was it on par for Morbid Angel, the gods of death metal? Hell naw. If this were released by some band no one would have heard of, it would just be tossed aside, but since it's such a legendary band, everybody's getting their panties in a knot. I, personally, will simply ignore this brown stain on their discography and hope that they'll rebound with something worthwhile next time around.

Also, early In Flames is tolerable but limp and listless, and anything after Subterranean really is just goddamn fucking unlistenable. Seriously, fuck that band, fuck all the shitty clones they've influenced, and fuck anybody who thinks they're making some sort of worthwhile contribution to metal. Do people actually think Anders is a good vocalist? fuck.

Looking forward to the new Symphony X album, hopefully them being signed to Nuclear Blast now won't change anything.

Ha, thank you!
Just how I feel!
Only difference is I love Lunar Strain and I know you said you didn't.
I think Jester Race was decent and everything that came later was faceless and boring and uninspired.
But I guess people that think Anders is a good vocalist are the same people that think Corey Taylor of Slipknot is TEH BEST SINGER EVAH because he can 'growl' and 'sing'! Woooooo!
Sorry, but I could go on about In Flames for a long time, seeing as they turned to shit almost immediately after releasing one of my faves.

Yeah, it sure as Hell is for me.
Four of my seven favourite bands ever released albums, and two of them actually reformed to release them (that being Empyrium and Autopsy... but Empyrium still hasn't come out with theirs yet) and the other two are Ulver and Burzum (Ulver still hasn't come out with the new album in vinyl, and I'm just waiting on that 0 )
And then a shitload of other bands I don't like anymore are coming out with stuff (Arch Enemy and In Flames and Opeth), so that must impress lots of people too. I guess  I gotta get into Morbid Angel's early stuff and then listen to this new album of theirs so I can take a turn bitching about it too, 'cause I sorta feel out of the loop here 0
I'm assuming Altars of Madness is their best release, 'cause that's all I hear about from them. Would that assumption be correct?

yes. at least, from my standpoint. I never got into em too much but Altars is a classic and probably one of the most influential Death Metal albums ever.
back on the topic of new releases: anybody heard the new Jungle Rot single? i Saw they got signed to Victory Records.... which was a little disheartening to me. how does an awesome band like Jungle Rot get on the same label as talent-less buttrock like Atreyu?

Hate to say it, but I smell a sellout. That always seems to happen when a band signs to a big label. But meh, we'll see.

Listened to the new single off their upcoming album... It's nothin too special, but it isn't nearly as GOD awful as most of the shit on Victory records. So stoked to see em next month at CIM

Dude, it's Jungle Rot. They evolve as much as a dinosaur and that's the way it'll always be. Their signing on Victory ain't gonna change that one bit.

EDIT: I personally prefer Blessed are the Sick to Altars.

I'm surprised I didn't see anyone mention Cruachan's new album "Blood On The Black Robe".
I Saw it being mentioned as one of the heaviest albums of the year on a website.
I think it's pretty good, but it feels as though they're pushing themselves to sound different.
Plus, I find the album to be a bit lacking since Karen Gilligan quit.
Her Voice had an amazing effect on their music, especially on their album "Pagan".
I guess it's good enough to hear her Voice on only a few tracks.

Decapitated are set to release their first album after their tragic bus Accident, where their drummer was killed and vocalist severely injured.

Accidentally posted this on TBDM thread.
