Review @ Aaron

30 Mai 2009
This has to be one of my all time favorite Black Metal albums. Everything is right about this record the cover the occult and tragically heroic ideoligy, everything.
When I had ordered "Taur nu fuin" I read a review saying what a horrible record it was, bad quality, 13 in a dozen album, so I was expecting the worse. But I can tell you that was the last time I ever valued an opinion written in Aardschok magazine. "Taur nu fuin" is nothing less than a classic. The great trinity Anextiomarus, Darken and Capricornus manage to create something which by no means sounds 13 in a dozen. I can understand that to some people this album does not sound exceptional. There are no great technical stunts, the sound is not hyper blasting you away but was is presented is to me the ultimate black metal sphere. I can listen to this album 3 times in a row, looking at the cover, reading the mysterious ideological story on the inside of the booklet. I always assumed Anextiomarus wrote that, but Capricornus claimed in an interview that he had written those words.
"In the black clouds of war" is a fast track drenched in Darken's characteristic synth parts as is the whole album actually. The songs are mostly mid tempo for some exceptions as with the last track "Cathari Sect" which is mostly fast but with some haunting slow parts at the end. "Meine ehre heisst treue" is ofcourse the wellknown SS motto. There is a bit of a fascist tendense round Infernum ofcourse but this is not surprising considering its members. This track is a beautiful instrumental melody kind of like Burzum's "Dominus Sathana." The outro is a sombre ambient track by Darken which leaves you in a dark landscape, deep in the woods where the fires burn and the thunder is roaring. Float away in this dark dream and finally see what lies behind the gates of Infernum.
