Einsamkeit is the latest release of Paysage d’Hiver, and may as well be considered their best. Its only three tracks long, but each of them are about 15 minutes in length. The each are similar in one way, making the album seem like one, but the are all different in some other way, adding variety to the album.
The first track, Einkehr, is an ambient track. It greatly reflects the albums cover, a starry and ethereal setting. The track starts off with noises of the wind, making you feel like you’re atop a tall mountain. Then the synths come in. How such a ghostly splendor can be made on this planet, I shall never know. It’s beautiful to say the least, and the fact that its almost 16 minutes of the same thing no where NEAR diminishes its greatness. It’s great music for resting, or if you’re just in the mood for something very chill.
The second track, Inneres Licht, is also one of immense ambience. Like the first track, it mirrors its spacey cover with sound. All of what’s said about the first track can be said about the second.
The third track,
Kraft, isn’t quite as good as the first two tracks. It begins off with this sound that sounds like a rusty saw being grinded across a brick wall. I’m not sure whether or not it’s supposed to be a guitar, but it sure doesn’t sound like one. The rusty saw sound dies out into these simplistic drums. Very tribal sounding, and fits very well. Then the synths come in. It can only be compared to the soundscapes created by
Vinterriket. Then the “guitars” come back in over the synths. Soon so do the vocals. It works out for an okay song. Not my favorite.
