After the franlky disappointing "March or Die",Motorhead hit back with "Bastards",which is one of the best albums they've ever released.Credit for this must go in part to the arrival of Mikkey Dee on the drum stool. His ferocious drumming style recalls the glory days of Philthy Animal Taylor in his prime and this is ably demonstrated on the first four songs on the album,"On Your Feet Or On Your Knees","Burner","Death Or Glory" and"I Am The Sword."These songs are all gloriously frenzied skull crushers, propelled at break-neck speed by Dee's relentless double-kick drum attack.

The really great thing about this album though is its diversity. For example there are a couple of rock'n'roll songs on there in the shape of "Born to Raise Hell",and Bad Woman"(of course it's rock'n'roll Motorhead style-hard fast and heavy),while "Lost In The Ozone" is a slower, more restrained affair, underpinned by some outstanding bass playing by Lemmy. There's also a haunting power ballad called "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me"which is an impassioned attack on the sexual abuse of children in which the searing guitar sound perfectly reflects the anger in Lemmy's voice.

But in an album filled with great songs Motorhead save the best 'til last."Devils"is an extraordinary song which skilfully combines a crushing riff on the verses with a breathtakingly beautiful melodic chorus.
If you like heavy music, and you've never heard this album,I urge you to seek it out.

ZazPanzer - 04 Mai 2010: Burner is more than a slap in the face, it's a Metal Train coming down on you at the speed of Hell !
Though I wouldn't give a 20/20 like you did, I think this is a great record. Thanx for recalling it.
albundy57 - 14 Oktober 2010: One of my favorite MOTORHEAD's release! It was the first album of the band I listened to...
