For many years the Greek death metal scene tried to be well known and the two worthy ambassadors of that scene are Septic
Flesh and
Nightfall.
Nightfall is the band which released great albums like
Athenian Echoes and this year they released another masterpiece of melodic death metal,
Astron Black and the Thirty Tyrants. For their success the only responsible person is their leader Efthimis Karadimas, who had great ideas, inspirations and of course gifted musicians with him. His cooperation with different musicians was an advantage and not a drawback for
Nightfall.
Astron Black
And The Thirty Tyrrants is an album which shows that the connection of melody and death vocals has as a result songs that can fill anyone with powerful feelings. The concept of the album is describing the ancient Greece and through this the situation of our present society as Karadimas said.
The most songs are fast and the others mid-tempo except I-I which is an acoustic emotion, but none of the songs is bad or inferior from the others. ''Astronomica saturnian moon'' is a fast song with great riffs and the best part of the song is its ending, songs like this one are not being written every day! The song in which melody is mostly presented is ''
Astra planeta-we chose the sun'' and I could say that melody exists too in the song ''Astron black'', I know it's a fast song, but just listen to its solo, power melody! The two songs that are easily stuck in your mind are ''
Archon basilews'' because of its rhythm and ''Ambassador of mass'' because of its refrain. Well it is too difficult to find a song and say that this one is better than the others, because every song has its characteristic parts that makes it different from the others.
I can say that the album's music is common to the music of Septic
Flesh, but there are two clues that make the totally difference. These are the vocals from Karadimas who sings in this album clearer than
Seth and the strong presence of keyboards from Stathis Cassios, which give to the album another sense of death metal.
We had to wait six years for this album, but I think that all this wait gave us a star in melodic death metal Astron Black, which I regard better than the two previous
I Am Jesus and Lyssa. The only you have to do is to enjoy it and you will find out that Astron!!
