Roger “Rogga” Johansson. If you don’t know the name, you can’t pretend to be listening to Death Metal. The man of many projects including, among many others, Revolting, Megascavenger, Putrevore, is again at it with what you could very much consider a solo album released under the Humanity Delete moniker. Aided by Jill Girardi, of past Razorback Records fame, for the writing of lyrics and by Lasse Pyykko, the born again Death Metal Finnish idol, as a guest soloist, Johansson delivers yet again another good ole slab of d-beat incrusted Swedish Death Metal.

The small duration of tracks confer at times a punkish energy that bands like Mr Death took to the next degree in the recent years while the a la “Hooded Menace” guitar solos make for the perfect counter-balance. It’s also ok to hear some early British Death Metal in the riffing and in the vocals of Rogga since at times you feel this or that part came from either Subconscious Terror or Harmony Corruption. This is especially true of Rogga’s lyrical “art” where the resemblance with Napalm Death’s own Barney can be a bit unsettling.

This would probably be all fine and dandy if unfortunately Johansson’s almost omnipresence in what seem to be dozens of Death Metal acts (hell, I just saw he got into Fondlecorpse’s line-up!) wasn’t giving you the sensation that you’ve heard his stance on Death Metal a countless times. I probably own only 15% of all the records he’s been playing an active part in and sometimes it feels as if I can’t tell the difference between Revolting, Banished From Infero, Megascavenger and now this. I won’t be as mean as writing that all tracks could be interchangeable because they’re not but if you were, like me, acquainted already with most of these bands, don’t expect then a new fantastic original Death Metal record. Rather than that, expect solid and groovy d-beat Swedeath and if it’s what the man does best, let him do his thing and keep on enjoying sincere Death Metal.

On the other hand if you’re not acquainted with any of these bands… wait… remember? you can’t pretend to be listening to Death Metal.
