WOE is one of the best one-man black metal bands period !
Creator, Xos composes symphonies of wreckage using black metal and punk methods. The song "
Ritual XIV" is a testament to this. A drone riff that just screams suicide opens the song and morphs several moods (thanks to Xos's fantastic drumming). Just at the right moment, the song breaks into that punk fist to the face. No programed drums here, which is unusual for most (not all) one-man bands. This very young band is already proving itself right out of the gate.
Next is INFERNAL STRONGHOLD. Another great band, it started it's career as a black metal band, STRONGHOLD. This however seems to have taken the seeds that was sown in black metal and sprouted a hardcore band. Now please understand my idea of hardcore more refers to DISCHARGE and
Scum era NAPALM DEATH.
That being said, INFERNAL STRONGHOLD is 100% more intense than both bands by todays standards. INFERNAL STRONGHOLD has more of a sharper cut than the early days of hardcore, but not too sharp because the whole time you're being slapped in the face and kicked in the nuts !
Both bands compliment each other on this split. As well, both bands are two of the best in their fields. Not only do they do "IT" well, but they take black metal and call it a bitch and make it call them daddy.
