Vomitory (VO)

interview Vomitory (SWE)

Definitely not ! Sweden is not the right place for ONLY melodic-gay death-metal with keyboards and female vocals. Sweden is also a country where terror, blood, bowels and spikes rule. And thanks to Vomitory only for existing ! These fucking bastards just released one of the best death-metal albums i heard this year. Total blasting old-school fast raging madness. Here’s an interview with uncompromised guitarist Ulf Dalegren in may 2004.

>Hi, please tell us about your new album’s conception. Tell us about the new songs & its recording process.
The concept of the album is that we wanted to do a great album and we did it. It was recorded in Kuling studio in Örebro with long time companion Henrik Larsson at the mixing desk. And we mixed it at Berno studio.

>Personally I don’t think your new album’s production is your best one. "Primal Massacre" sounds a little bit chaotic & noisy. I prefer when you sound fat and more heavy, groovy. Why did you change your studio this time ? Are you really satisfied with the sound ?
We had recorded our last 3 albums in Berno so we wanted to go to some other place we thought it was time to do that for this album. We have been talking about doing it before but it never happened until now. We’re really satisfied with the result of the album the drum sound is the best one ever and the overall production is great. Only thing that could have been a bit better is the guitar sound it’s good but it could have been a bit better.

>I’d like to know why labels must always use more superlatives to describe their releases. Personally I really like "Primal Massacre" a lot, I think it’s a great death-metal album but I don’t find it particul

interview Vomitory (SWE)arly your most violent one. Metal Blade announced it as being your most brutal album. Is it a marketing strategy from the label or are you convinced this is true ?
It’s a killer album that’s it.

>Since your old vocalist Jussi Linna left the band after "Redemption", Erik (your bassist) did the main vocals. Now that he wants to concentrate on its bass parts only, you’re searching for a new vocalist. Did you think about taking Jussi back in the band ? On "Redemption" I think his voice fits perfectly to the band’s music. If not, what kind of vocalist are you looking for ?
No, you don’t take someone back who you have kicked out of the band for the reason that it didn’t work out with that guy. We want a guy who basically sings like Erik.

>This is not a secret, Vomitory plays old-school death-metal in its purest form. On "Primal Massacre" I heard some passages that sound like Bolt Thrower or Terrorizer a lot. This is not a bad point ‘cause I really like these bands. But I’d like to know which bands do you consider as being influential on Vomitory’s sound ?

Every band that we listen to I guess more or less anyway. And that’s a lot of bands. For a Vomitory song to make it to the album recording the only demand is that everybody think it’s a good song otherwise we try to re arrange it if that don’t work out we throw it away it happens before every album recording that a couple of songs gets thrown away.

>You’re swedish but you don’t sound swedish. There’s only a few old-school death-metal bands in your country today (Repugnant, Verminous, Bloodbath…). What do you think about the Gothenburg wave of death-metal ? Is it

interview Vomitory (SWE)something you’ve been keen on ?
It’s not my kind of music. I like At the gates but I don’t think that’s the Gothenburg metal you’re talking about.

>Vomitory is well-known for touring a lot. Is it easy to conciliate your job, Vomitory’s touring agenda and all the relationship problems that may appear when 4 persons travel together during a long period ?
Combining full time jobs with our music is pretty hard but so far it has worked out ok. There are absolutely no problems between us when we’re on tour we know each other that well and all the guys in the band are aware of what it takes to pull a tour through. We usually have a great time when we’re on tour.

>You just participated to the No Mercy festivals with Cannibal Corpse, Hypocrisy, Kataklysm, Exhumed… What are your best memories from these dates ?
Definitely the best tour we’ve done so far great gigs, cool bands everything was perfect. We had a great time it only felt too short when it was over. One of many great memories is when Matt / Exhumed was singing karaoke in a bar in Paris it was awesome.

>Do you have more plans for touring Europe these coming months ? What bands would you like to share the stage with ? Do you appreciate some french ones ?
We’re gonna do a couple of festivals this summer Brain-dead (France), Party-San (Ger), Summer Breeze (Ger) that’s all we know at the moment. It doesn’t matter what band we share stage with just as long as they are cool guys to hang out with.

>Thanx for your time, last words are yours.

Thanks for the support, check out our new album. A big hail to all who came and saw us on the No Mercy tour.
