Биография : Weirdland

Founded in 2002 by 3 ex-members of metal bands from Saint-Etienne (near Lyon), Weirdland operates in an 80's Heavy Metal, blended with progressive touches and at the crossroads of Iron Maiden, Symphony X, Helloween, Annihilator, and even Dream Theater.

Concerning / For the lyrics, Weirdland's members all agree : no politics, social issues, or private problems!!! They leave room for fantasy and prefer escaping into imaginary worlds.

Weirdland picks up ideas into Indo-European mythologies, legends, historical events or J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece, the mythical « Lord of the Rings ».
Patrick Jungrichter (lead vocals and guitar), Thierry Delvaux (drums) and Thierry Ventura (backing vocals and bass guitar) bring the diversity of their past experiences to the Metal.

The first concerts enabled them to « test the formula » and positive echoes made Weirdland record « The Curse Of Ice », a four-title demo, in spring 2003.
Fanzines and webzines' welcome was encouraging.
On the other hand, the audience also started to be interested in this new « Power Trio », really at ease on stage and playing their own music as well as Heavy Metal 80's standards.
Writing accelerated as little by little, the hope to find a singer in the region disappeared.

The band multiplied concerts and started exporting its music to Lyon in February 2004.
Encouraged by the audience and by bands sharing stages with them, the guys recorded their second opus, a real eight-title album this time.
« Remains From The Past » was thus released in June 2004, confirming the path taken towards E/epic M/metal, particularly with a song largely inspired by « The Lord of the Rings ».
The progressive touch was still present in titles which complex rhythms showed Weirdland's ability to create a highly technical construction.

Very positive, the « underground » press underlined the achievement of what was foreseen in « The Curse Of Ice »: ear-catching melodies, refrains remaining in your head, efficient guitar solos, a strong rhythmic section and a polyvalent bass guitar. Weirdland obtained then a distribution agreement with a French label.
Followed a series of concerts, called « Balrog on the Road Tour 2004-2005 », a joking tribute to grand shows offered by leader bands in the 80's.

November 2005 saw the coming out of "Weavers Of Fate", their second album (still an auto-prod), showing a light inflexion towards a more traditional Heavy Speed. The novelty lies in the real improvement of the lyrics section: better constructed refrains and more accomplished melodies. Maturity was there.

Since then, Weirdland has been on tour, « scoring points » outside and forging its reputation as a serious and convivial band among the audience and other bands. Next .. to obtain the first part of a leader band's concert and to find a production label so that they will be able to spend their energy entirely on their two main vocations : writing and stage.
