Биография : Tenhi

a landscape
Tenhi has always meant to carry out a journey through diverse feelings. folk-influenced progressive music. The lyrics are written in Finnish, and they follow the musical themes; esoteric moods, withdrawn feelings, fragility and the mystical side of nature. The combination of visual arts and music came fluently as all members are into visual arts. The music and the visualizing fulfill each other to bring out the wanted auras.

At the end of year 1996 Tyko Saarikko composed the first song for Tenhi shortly after Ilkka Salminen joined and after short sessions a demo tape "Kertomuksia" was recorded and released in spring 1997 which got really good response in underground and caught the interest of Prophecy Productions from Germany. After recording a promo-tape, which included early versions of "hallavedet" and "etäisyyksien taa", a deal was signed for three full-length albums.

Ilmari Issakainen was asked to join the group before they entered the studio for the "Hallavedet-mCD" recording session in spring 1998. The recording and mixing took place in a hasty 16-hour session and the band has never been satisfied with the sound on it, which differs a lot from the typical and wanted Tenhi sound. The following summer, violin player Eloenora Lundell joined the band while they were composing material for the first full-length album `Kauan´ which was recorded autumn 1999. Veera Partanen played flute as a session member. Two songs were dropped out from the sessions; "kielo" and "niin auer hiljaa vie". "niin auer hiljaa vie" was later released on the "Lichttaufe – Der Folklore Liedschatz" compilation CD.

In summer 2000 Tenhi got the chance to play live at Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, Germany, and Faces etnofestivals in Karjaa, Finland. As Wave-Gotik-Treffen had its famous sad end the first real live performance took place at Karjaa Faces festivals. The flute player Veera could not play then so another friend Janina Lehto played the flute that time. Veera still played the flute on airut:ciwi but Janina has now become a permanent member of the band. Her progressive flute playing can be heard on second full-length album `väre`. `Väre` will also introduce a new violin player Inka Eerola as Eleonora started to play alto violin. Bass player Jaakko Hilppö and a guitarist Tuukka Tolvanen, both from Ilmari"s other band `Mother depth` are guest musicians in Tenhis live-lineup.

Also during the summer of 2000, `Kielo´ was re-recorded and released later on the mCD `airut:ciwi` with two other songs. At the end of year Tenhi started to record the following full-length album `väre`, which came across many setbacks. Now it ought to be released early autumn 2002. In the beginning of summer 2001 Tenhi got another chance to play at Wave-Gotik-Treffen and this time everything went as planned. Following autumn Tenhi had a tour in Germany and in Austria with Dornenreich and Of The Wand And The Moon. The tour went well, apart from the lack of proper equipment at some venues, which forced the bands to play at almost speaking volume. The following release after "väre" is planned to be a mCD continuing the "airut:" saga.
