Биография : Sucamus

In the summer of 1997 the name was determined, the line-up, however, wasn't. In January 1998 Sucamus practised for the first time, without a drummer, in a garage (off course, what else). At the end of the month the band was complete: drummer (Ferry), singer/saxophonist (Erwin vV), two guitar-players (Jorno and Erwin B) and a bass-player (Edwin). Influences: heavy metal, death metal, doom metal, gothic metal, trash metal, rock and punk/hardcore (yes, the whole bunch).

From the summer of 1998 up to the summer of 1999 the band performed on various stages. After a period without much activity and a change in the line-up (a new bass-player, Frank) new shows resulted in regular practising. As a result of the new bass player, the punk/hardcore influence changed into funk. Nonetheless, this was not really recognisable in the music.

June 17 in the year 2000 Sucamus visited the studio (Plug Unit, Reeuwijk) to record its first demo "Riotous". Sound-quality was authentic and the cover was great. The band could not be but satisfied. The demo was officially presented in The Gonz in Gouda on September 2 2000. The 300 copies are sold out (but there continues to be a mystery about 10 or 20 copies being lost in an attic).

After "Riotous", Sucamus got more structure in its melodious death-metal. After a few very successful experimental rehearsals, Saskia became a permanent member of the band, and gave the band a very unique sound with her fresh and clear rock vocals.

After the split with the second bass player, two others gave it a try; without succes (you'll find guitarplayers scattered all over the place, but bass players...). For a while, the band went on without a bass-player, tuning the guitars a bit lower.

With the new female vocalist the band performed several times, with many positive reactions as a result. On December 21 2001 professional live-recordings were made by Ambitious Entertainment, but never issued.

Haico (yes, a bass-player) completed the band somewhere in 2002. In 2003 the band celebrated its first lustrum in De Gonz Gouda, leaving a solid impression.

Existing 5 years, Sucamus got into the studio to record their first 8-track album "Iconoclast". By the end of May, the album was ready to be sold. The album was presented officially in Baroeg Rotterdam.

Although the issue of "Iconoclast" had to be promoted and used to bring the band to a more respectable level, things got out of hand. A few gigs were done, but problems between several band members kept piling up. In spring 2004, Saskia, as well as Erwin vV, lost their motivation due to personal conflicts, and left Sucamus. The other band members continued to rehearse, but after a few months, Sucamus was completely history.

Well, not completely, as it appeared in January 2006. A good friend of the band persuaded all former members to do a last gig! The band rehearsed a few times and did this final gig... despite several odes to the band that night.

But who knows... it could be the first final gig...
