Биография : Loss Of Breath

Straight from central New Jersey dwell five angry and pessimistic, yet unified men who collectively are Loss of Breath, a name deriving from an Edgar Allan Poe story. While most bands thirst for fame, this 5-piece simply plays for “the love of it”, like guitarist Jones points out. Playing in New Jersey, a state overwhelmed with bands eager to make it big and frustrated with competition most bands may not be able to handle the grief; however, Loss of Breath battles on. Their goal is not about making it big and getting money, rather it’s a more commendable reason- playing the music they want to for as long as possible. The band may not play shows too often or release cd’s that much, but they can surely be respected for having been able to remain true to themselves and finding the music and talent to suit that.

Ever since forming in 2001 Loss of Breath has gone through several lineup changes. After being together for a year they parted ways with their vocalist. Seeking a reliable and cutting edge singer the band put out an ad in The Aquarian. Scotty responded, was given an audition and automatically landed the position as the lead singer. The lineup was then Scotty, Dennis, Red, Ron, and Chris. They played shows with newcomers to the metal and hardcore community E-Town Concrete and Lamb of God, as well as ‘80s bands Overkill and Twisted Sister. Although, they were receiving a positive reception from their fans, problems arouse amongst band members. These problems resulted in the dismissal of three members either because they got kicked out or they simply left. At this point the band went on hiatus for a year to reconstruct their lineup. Finally, in late 2004 the band reformed and solidified their lineup adding Chris (formerly in the New Jersey band Slidebolt) on bass, Jones on guitar, and Paul (also from a New Jersey band- Carnapple) on drums.

This new lineup change however, not only brought new people, but also a new musical direction. While Loss of Breath’s first EP “Unsaved” was more hardcore, their latest effort is straight up metal. Influenced by bands such as Slayer, Metallica, Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage it is evident to notice not only the new metal influence, but also the ‘80s metal influence as well. The bands latest 4-song demo recorded in Brooklyn at Purple Light Studio with Michael Barille show the bands drive and newfound direction with a faster, heavier, more aggressive approach.

Loss of Breath use the tumultuous music that they create as an outlet to relieve their anger and as a tool to suppress negative action. The music in turn keeps them focused, levelheaded, and out of trouble. Loss of Breath unselfishly serves the obscure rhythmic cure they make to their fans. Their newly recorded 4-song demo and lineup demonstrate Loss of Breaths readiness to reveal their onslaught of heavy metal music like Jones said, to “anybody that wants to listen to us” and “move”.

Loss of Breath has finally crafted their most serious lineup to date and are slowly preparing to embark further into the community of metal, which looks on the rise as after they played the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on September 2nd with Obituary and Napalm Death and have several shows coming up.
