Биография : Lava Engine

2006

The foundation of what would soon come to be Lava Engine. By this time the band went under another name, or names if you will, and consisted of Magnus Florin (vo, gtr), Christian Karlsson (dr), Tomas Carlström (bs) and Daniel Bentzer (keys), and had recently transformed into its dayshape from a phase - yes, let's call it a phase - where acoustic guitars and melody was put to spotlight. Bands such as The Beatles, Crowded House, Jellyfish and Midnight Oil was a "temporary" influence for the band and if you'd listen to this material today you probably wouldn't recognize the sound as being a pre-thing of todays Lava Engine. Neither could the band. This was in fact, as stated, a piece in time of development. Members had always played some sort of rock or metal in the past so this "pre-band" was an experiment, you could say; Just to try out different ideas, to do something different and in general just turn everything upside down and try to find new inspiration.

2007

Lava Engine named adapted and a musical style reflected a step back/forward to the roots and now offered electric guitars (distorsion) again, the songwriting back more frequently in minor keys and semi-progressive attitude in songwriting. An EP was released but only for the closest and is really not counted as an official release. This album contained the "new" sound that right away seperated Lava Engine from themselves (the past year). Due to time issues, family and partially this change made Daniel Bentzer drift away from the band and later jumped off the train. After seeking for a replacement for quite some time the old music high school mate of Florin, Ronnie Jaldemark (gtr) showed up. The first approach to him was that he would handle the keyboards, but Jaldemark had a different idea of joining as he wanted to bring his guitars. So let be done, and there it was - another mark of the Lava Engine line-up.

2008

The year of the official band debut, both on a live stage and a proper release of music. By this time the band parted ways with Tomas Carlström as well because of differencies musically. All agreed and not one heart broken, and today Carlström is the most frequent photographer of the band and a close friend. "Lava Engine", the self-titled debut EP was released later on around September, and was the result of hard work of both finding bassplayers and writing new material. A temporary member, Ian Varjanne, handling the lower fret noises had put down bass on this album but the need of a full time member. The search was everlasting as it seemed, and after a live gig Lava Engine was approached by... a drummer?

Mick Nordström (Modest Attraction, Flagship, XT etc) was at the gig and was appealed to the sound and music of the band. This was the kind of music that he'd always wanted to do. As it turns out, the current drummer at the time felt obligations to his daylife and job and felt the need of taking a break from drumming. Two weeks later Nordström is in the rehearsal room trying out for a seat in the members cart and joined.

2009

The search for a bassplayer was yet not over, and at times it seemed like Lava Engine had found their fourth but, no. Among those who partially joined were Vanja Hadzic (Sleeping Dervish, Ten Feet High, ex-Matreya) and Pär "PeGe" Gustafsson (Dolores Teacup, Preemus Rex). At this time, the band was at the same time focused on finding a fourth but really wanted to move onward with new material and begin the process of recording the follow up album. One can say that this was done simultaneously and somewhere along the line came Simon Dahlström (Beyond Known) and joined the band. He'd been thought of from the start but there was always the question of time and dedication which now had been given an answer. Dahlström was the fourth ace in the deck. Lava Engine was complete.

2010

Songwriting, less live occasions, rehearsals and a major dedication in getting time to multiply itself. Hard work to filter out the new material, get the new line-up together on this one and... record. June 2010 saw the release of "In Limbo", a bit darker follow up EP this time released as a digipack.
