GODCURSED was initially conceived conceptually in 1999 by sole member, Chris Ian Shaver (Hybrids Of Exile, Perpetuance/Devilution, Morbid Darkness). Ideas and energy flowed from a brief project that was being worked on at the time (revising some old Morbid Darkness material, circa 1989-1995, for archival purposes). The material that Chris had been writing from 1996-1999 had been very experimental, and quite far removed from his style while in Morbid Darkness, so this brief return to raw and fast paced metal was a huge inspiration. After writing a few songs, it was evident that the time wasn't right, and work continued on his more experimental styles. Between 1999 and 2004, aside from his more mainstream-metal and rock projects, several song ideas had been created and finally in Summer 2004, Chris put a plan together to begin work on this postponed project.

GODCURSED was born, and in late 2004, after a 2 song demo was written and recorded (consequently, for his other band at the time, Perpetuance, which flopped around the same time), production began for the debut album, "Domain". The album was released via the web in Spring 2005, right around the same time Chris's other band reformed as Devilution. Work on a second album did not come about right away, with his other band being more of a priority, but eventually, the music began to flow. In early 2006, after the subsequent demise of Devilution, Chris was left with a handful of songs that had been written for that band which hadn't yet been recorded. The style was more melodic thrash than the signature death metal overtones of GODCURSED but Chris decided to put the wheels in motion and use them for the second album (as it was, Chris's original blueprints for the second album were dead in the water). While reworking some of the songs, Chris decided to throw in a few other oldies as they fell in relatively the same genre and in late 2006 production began on the album. Almost a year later, in fall 2007, "Past Life Strife" was released via the web and proved to be a very different offering than 2005's "Domain". It seemed to go over well enough, though it soon became obvious to Chris that he'd have to go back to a more death metal style, as he had now been part of a new band (Hybrids Of Exile) that was basically playing in this melodic thrash style.

In early 2008, after throwing some ideas around in his spare time, preproduction began on the upcoming album that was a return to form, but clearly a bit of the melodic stylings of PLS had rubbed off. After a lengthy preproduction period, recording began in July 2008 and came to a close in August 2008. On August 26, the third album "The Blood Door" was unleashed via the web and though not without its share of experiments, was a true return to death metal form. In true GODCURSED fashion, of course there are some older compositions on this album, including 'Sorrow In Frost' which was written in January 1992 and was originally slated to appear on Morbid Darkness' second demo. 'Black Metal Blade' was also a later Morbid Darkness compostion which never made it to tape. Chris is currently continuing to work with Hybrids Of Exile, but already ideas for the next album are in motion. Chris is also making plans to release the GODCURSED albums in hardcopy form, complete with unreleased bonus material, under the s8n.recordings label and make them available via mail-order as soon as early 2009.
