Биография : Factory 81

Their first full-length album, Mankind, was released on Medea Records in 1999 and then later re-released on Universal/Mojo on October 21, 2001. Factory 81 disbanded in December 2003 without releasing another album.

Factory 81 generated a grassroots following via the Internet in 1998, with small pods of fans across the U.S. and abroad promoting the band in their local markets as their popularity spread. While a street team sponsored by ArtistDirect existed for some time, many fans operated outside the official network.

The band gained notoriety after their first US tour as an opener for Mudvayne, One Minute Silence and Relative Ash. The band continued to tour in support of Mankind, touring frequently with other bands such as Glassjaw, Chimaira, Ill Nino and 40 Below Summer, among others, until going on a hiatus to write new material.

During the hiatus from touring, the band played a few small shows around Detroit, including a show at the Wired Frog consisting of mostly new, unreleased material.

The band wrote no more than 15 new songs as part of a potential second album, but disbanded before releasing another official album. Kevin Lewis, who now runs a MySpace page in remembrance of Factory 81, has posted 4 tracks from his repository of previously unreleased material.
