Crying Steel is an Heavy-Metal band from Bologna, Italy. The band started in the spring of 1982 (NWOBHM era), from the pre-existent Hard-Rock group Wurdalak, with the classic five member line-up: a singer, two guitarists, a bassist and a drummer. The founders of the band were the guitarist Alberto Simonini and the bassist Angelo Franchini (from Wurdalak), with the adding of the singer Luca Bonzagni. Beginning of 1983: after some changes the line-up settled with the adding of Luca Ferri on drums and Franco Nipoti on second guitar. After some months their first demo-tape was noted by the italian monthly specialized mag "Rockerilla" that reported it to the italian indie Metal Eye. So Crying Steel were selected to appear on the first italian Heavy-Metal compilation called "Heavy-Metal Eruption" with the song "Thundergods" (march 1984) getting the best response. January 1985: Metal Eye released the mini-lp "Crying Steel" that got positive responses in the italian and european scene. For the next two years the band got many concerts all over Italy: to be noted, the performance at "Heavy Metal Festival" of Bologna (june 1986) with Motorhead and Twisted Sister. January 1987: got second place in the "Best italian band" poll of the italian specialized mag "HM". They got signed by the italian record label "LM Records-Materiali Sonori" that released the LP "On The Prowl" (december 1987), available in picture-disc, cd, and compact cassette formats, that was considered the best Heavy-Metal work ever released in italy by many magazines (the first italian LP to come out on cd). Then, the band toured a lot in Italy. January 1988: got second place in the "Best italian band" poll of the italian specialized mag "HM" for the second time. September 1988: Alberto Simonini and Luca Bonzagni did leave the band and got replaced by the female singer Lee Hevil (replaced just after by Lisa Bisognin) and the guitarist Michele Vanni. March 1990: Francesco di Nicola did replace Michele Vanni on guitar and in July of the same year the band played some concerts in Russia. March 1994: after some promoters request the band played a Reunion Gig with the original line-up (Bonzagni/Ferri/Franchini/Nipoti/Simonini) at "Sala Centofiori" in Bologna getting a sold-out. January 2003: after a meeting proposed by Alberto Simonini, the band decide the real Reunion with the classic line-up. May 2003: Reunion Gig at "Container" in Bologna. September 2003: after some other promoters enterprise the band was headliner at "Bologna Metal Fest 2003" at Palanord in Bologna. Crying Steel are now collecting the material for their new album and looking for a contract deal.
