Биография : Bad To The Bone

n the summer of the year 1998 two young friends living in Mirandola (near Modena) , Andrea Bertolazzi and Lorenzo Bellia, decided to do some jam sessions. Andrea was the singer and Lorenzo played guitar. It was only a hobby, they thumbed covers of Italian artists like Litfiba and of immortal songs from Nirvana, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Queen, Black Sabbath ecc... The experience amused a lot the two guys, so they started to think about the creation of a real band, a HEAVY METAL band! They began to look around for mates in 1999 and they found Tinez, a young bassist from a near village. After a couple of sessions together they decided to split up because Tinez didn't like metal music. Waiting for the right people Andrea and Lorenzo chose "BAD TO THE BONE" as name of the future group and they wrote together the song "Lasciatemi Solo". The situation didn't change until 17 September 2000, when a friend of Andrea introduced to him Marco Malagoli, a very young guitar player, and Marco Chirigoni, a drummer. BAD TO THE BONE were born on that glorious day. The 4 worked on Lasciatemi Solo, on other songs written by Andrea and Lorenzo (Dr. Faustus, F.A.M., Loving the Hate, Slave to an Innocent Soul) and on covers of great bands like Metallica and Fear Factory. The first official gig was at a private party on 31/10/2000. They played also on 7/12/2000 at Bussola Club in Mirandola, with Tinez as special guest. They played a lot in that period, in order to improve their technique, on the second floor of a cafe' and they remember with delight all the girls that came from the bar wanting to meet in a very personal way the members of BTTB. In the year 2001 they started to look for a bassist and they finally found Giovanni Bellini. Andrea and Lorenzo wrote new songs that represent a switch of genre, in fact these songs are not heavy metal, but pure Death Metal! They made some appreciated gigs in that period. After the summer Dario Ferrari replaced Bellini, because Giovanni had a very poor technique. So we arrive at 2002. In this year the cult for darkness, weird tales, supernatural and demonology began and the 5 decided to change their names. "Change name was like a baptism," Andrea said "when I'm on stage with BTTB I become someone else, I feel the life force pump hard in my veins.". Andrea, Lorenzo, Marco M., Dario, Marco C. were reborn as Maelstrom, Kain, Ragnarok, Loki, The Deacon. Song for a Raper, The Fall Of The Heavenly Father and Misguided Martyrs were written by Maelstrom and Kain during this year. They started to play in the entire North of Italy and in October they began to prepare the material for their first studio work. In December they recorded at Bunker Studio in Rubiera (Re) Darkness Obsessed (see discography section). The album was mixed by the famous Enzo Persueder, who liked a lot their songs, and the critics appreciated this self-produced demo. A lot of new gigs were booked by the band in 2003 and they began to collaborate with IMP (booking agency from Bologna) thanks to the demo, but after the summer they risked to split up: Ragnarok and The Deacon left the band! Ragnarok left the band because he said he was tired of play guitar. BTTB called soon a substitute, Marco Pinotti, baptized as Death Baron. The band miss Malagoli a lot, but the show must go on, you know. The Deacon instead was fired because he didn't believe in the project, he has never become a friend of the other band members and with poor pretexts he cancelled 3 live shows. 15 days before the Halloween show in Brescia BTTB asked Federico Furini (considered by the group a sort of idol, one of the best metal drummer they've ever seen in the underground scene) if he wanted to join the group. He accepted soon (he plays also in New Flesh Coming) and he was baptized as Peter North. They decided to play original Death Metal and a lot of covers from Metallica, Slayer, Fear Factory, Six Feet Under, Death. Thanks to Peter the technique of the group reached unhoped levels and every live show is a great success. 2004 was full of great lives and the band classified 9th on the "Battle of The Metal Band", a challenge made by the 'zine Metal Hammer and the webzine Metallus.it among 220 underground bands. In 2005 was written one of the best BTTB song, Immoral Being, and the band started to think about the recording of a real album, not a garage demo. BTTB re-wrote all the songs, huge amount of money was spent to create a recording studio and, after some great gigs, in the summer of the 2005 Ash To Ash was started. 2006 was a recording year: we took our time with no pressure. Now, in 2007, the great brand new album is out and we are coming back, more aggressive and metal than ever! Stay tuned!
