Биография : Backyard Mortuary

Hailing from the great brown land, Australia, with the sick intention of vomiting out some foul and putrid Death Metal, Backyard Mortuary came together in 2002 with Chris Archer on vocals and Dave Thomas on guitar. About 6 months later the first demo, 'Dead Goregous' was recorded and released. Around 80 or 90 copies were printed DIY style and sold with minimal promotion, until it was decided that enough was enough and this rotten garbage should no longer be allowed to pollute the earth.

In 2003, a few more blood soaked maniacs joined the band; Bianca Jamett on bass, Andrew Nairns on guitar and Bob Lawson on drums. After rehearsing their symphonies of sickness for much longer than should be necessary, Backyard Mortuary finally played their first gigs in May 2004 and quickly followed them up by supporting EXHUMED (USA) and DEEDS OF FLESH (USA) on their Australian tours. After DEEDS OF FLESH Bob was removed from the band and Andrew Nairns left to concentrate on his own vile creation. Backyard Mortuary was contacted later in the year by Chinese label Area Death Productions about covering a song for an upcoming DEATH Tribute compilation. Taken from the legendary album 'Scream Bloody Gore', the song Mutilation was recorded with friend Tim Yatras handling the drumming. Unfortunately it was only for this song and he didn't stay in the band longer than a few weeks. Shortly after the recording, it was discovered that Stephen Grogan, a mate and rabid headbanger, could play guitar and was asked to join.

Now nearly a quarter of the way through 2005 and still without a drummer, the band was falling deeper into the grave, until ex-guitarist Andrew pulled the band back on to the left hand path by offering to drum for a short time so they could play live again. No more than a few weeks after Andrew's return, the band was invited to play at Bloodlust, Australia's biggest Extreme Metal festival, alongside other bands such as GOSPEL OF THE HORNS, DAWN OF AZAZEL, DESTRUKTOR and GRENADE to name a few, as well as being asked to open for INSISION (Swe) on their Australian tour. With these gigs in place, the band began recording again, for an EP to be released through local label Beer in Your Ear. The self titled EP, which featured 4 new songs and 1 re-recorded song from the 'Dead Goregous' demo, was completed just days before Bloodlust. Around 50 copies, which was half of the first pressing, were sold straight after their set, while the remainder were sold through mail order and at INSISION, which was Andrew's last gig with the band. There has since been a 2nd pressing of the CD, as well as a cassette version released through Swedish label Zombie Ritual, with different cover art.

In early 2007, Stephen's cadaver was moved to another morgue and replaced with Stuart from fellow Sydney Death Metal band BLUDGEONER, who have since returned to the shallow grave from which they came. John was spotted smashing poofters' heads in with old bones and quickly recruited as drummer. Now that the line-up is once again complete, it won't be long till Backyard Mortuary regurgitate their disgusting decompositions live.
