Биография : Against Nature

Friends since childhood, the members of Against Nature were once known as the Baltimore, MD doom metal band Revelation.

As Revelation, the group began exploring their vision in May of 1986. Comprised of John Brenner (guitar and vocals), Andy Kremer (bass), and Steve Branagan (drums), they released the demo "Face Reality" in January, 1987. Shortly afterward, Andy left the band and John began recording and playing bass guitar temporarily. Revelation's sound and style became more defined and the demos "Terminal Destiny" and "Images of Darkness" were released, in the summer and winter, respectively, of 1987.

In February of 1988, Bert Hall Jr., who had played with John in bands in the early 80s, joined as bassist and made the line-up complete. Revelation then recorded their fourth demo, "The Illusion of Progress," adding a progressive, Rush-influenced aspect to their style and gaining them label interest.

Revelation appeared on the Doom Metal sampler "Dark Passages" in 1990 with the song "Blessed Realm," which led to a recording deal with Rise Above Records (owned by Lee Dorrian, of Cathedral and Napalm Death fame).

"Salvations Answer," their first full-length recording, was recorded in June of 1990 and released on Rise Above Records in early 1991. Shortly after their first release and without a recording contract, instead of sitting idle, the band decided to record their fifth demo, "The Unbearable Vision."

In July 2004, returning after a 11-year absence and John Brenner's retirement from music in 1993, Against Nature formed (or re-formed?) and began writing and rehearsing new music. They have since released three recordings on their own label Bland Hand Records: Appease, Panoply, and Safe Dissonance. This new material continues the trio's original musical and artistic direction begun with Revelation. They have played the Templars of Doom II festival in Indianapolis and the Doom Shall Rise IV festival in Germany, and are scheduled to play the Stoner Hands of Doom VII festival in Mesa, AZ and the Doom to Fall festival in San Antonio, TX in 2006.

Against Nature plans to release at least two more recordings in 2006: Ghosting (due to be recorded in June and released in July) and Leer (due to be recorded in August and released in September). The band will also contribute a cover of Manilla Road's "Crystal Logic" to a compilation CD and will release a 7" vinyl single ("Pluperfect" and "Confusion") on a German label in the coming months.
