Abyssmal Nocturne was formed in 1999 in San Diego with former members of the band Crimson Moon. In the same year in which they were formed, they produced a demo entitled The Gates Beyond the Stars. It was distributed by Spectral Arts Productions. Then, in 2005, they released their first full length album From the Astral Abyss. Nocturnal Overlord was ejected from the band in 2007 and did not play in the 2007 concert "Gathering of Shadows".
