Heavy/ Power Metal from Greece… hmmm! It’s a long story with more lows than highs! Although the Greek fan-base of this genre has been one of the strongest throughout the years, the resulting bands and their recordings seem to have little more to offer than zest and dedication. Be it the production, the vocals that sounded like tormented screams or the naivety of the compositions, the final products fell short compared to the rest European bands. OK, it hasn’t always been this way, but the balance was heavier at the immature side. Why this introduction? Because The Silent Rage sound nothing like the aforementioned situation!

I have been quite positively surprised by this promo, which comes as a taster to their soon-to-be-released “Inner Scars” full length. According to their Bio this is a fairly young band, and this is their first effort apart from a rehearsal demo released in 2006 by just one member of their current line-up. The five tracks included here scream nothing less than professionalism. The artwork has been assigned to a proper artist, and the production has been handled by someone who has experience in this field of Metal. Would just these two reasons excuse my dithyrambs? Of course not. It’s music that we’re talking about here. And the music is great. Melodic Power Metal that’s heavy when it has to be. The guitars are awesome, playing inspired themes and changing their speed every now and then so that the songs can “breathe”. The melodies that they built are interesting and hit their target. The vocals, something that has plagued the Greek scene quite often, come from a voice that many well-known bands would love to hire. They sound confident and are not afraid to go higher pitched. A few aggressive touches provide the variety needed, as well. The rhythm section isn’t there just to keep the pace, but colors the compositions with ideas and nice breaks. Keyboards are also used in “dialogues” with the guitars but they know their place and they don’t ruin the final METAL outcome.

Well, is it just good enough for inside the Greek borders then ? I’d have to say no. I’m quite sure that if a proper Label deal would be offered to them, their CD could proudly stand among other Euro-Power releases. They aren’t changing the Power Metal map of course, but I’d be happy seeing people getting their record instead of some uninspired late albums of some well-established bands.

Hoping that they can recreate their music on stage:
