Great Record from the Underground
Mouth of the South is a Christian Metalcore band that has released another album before this and one EP. Hailing from the good 'ole
Texas this release surely has an impact. How big is this impact? Well, it's safe to say this is possibly one of the best Metalcore releases of this year.
And thus I begin.
Struggle Well begins with a great opening.
Blind Guides hits the ground running. Unlike the traditional opening for a record, it goes straight into the lyrics. The screams are perfect, reminding of something
For Today, or
Saving Grace has done before.
And it's a very common theme with the record.
Next is Running Scared which begins similar to The Mixture by
Volumes. But it's the guitars that stand out here. They hit fast and hard with no breaks in between. The vocalist almost takes a
Corey Taylor sound, as if
Corey Taylor is a feature.
Simply Grace is possibly the best track on the record. It's the interlude but it ranks really high with me. It's great. The vocals are just someone talking from the Bible in a
God persona. But the words are great.
Idle
Hands picks off right as it left off and it does it's job. The only thing I have, that I can point out against this record is it's repetition. It sounds the same with little to no variation. But it's still a great record nonetheless and all things considered.
The album artwork is pretty good, resembles a man just standing in a muddy downpour waiting for something and it actually blends the album together.
In conclusion,
Struggle Well is possibly the best Metalcore record of this year, and it has this for good reason. I recommend this in high regards and hope others will support the band by picking this up. I rank an 18/20.
