The band from the
North of Finland,
Mors Subita, plays death metal but you know, death metal can be as different as musicians who play it. Death
Metal presented by the band on their new EP “
Sound of Spite” is not that old-school crashing and smashing wall, it has something from Thrash
Metal, dark lyrical atmosphere, some great melodies and solos.
But let’s start from the beginning. The band has started in 1999 as a cover band and has made first own songs in the early 2000s. As many bands, it suffered a lot of changes in the line-up, played a lot of gigs and released a few demos/MCD.
And now 5-piece band presents a 5-song EP.
If you believe that Northern scene often offers a tasty morsels and
Mors Subita is worth checking it, you’re right. The quality of the recording/production is not that good (especially sound of drums) but it’s quite ok for the EP. Also some can not like the vocals (mostly screaming). But the song writing here is amazing and we can expect from this band something really interesting in the future. Musicians obviously know and understand what they are doing. They keep that perfect balance of rhythm and melody that makes a hit of a song. Besides,
Mors Subita has nice melodies, clear atmosphere that not only fits the genre but also gives some shade of
Dark Metal, and some bright guitar solos. So here you won’t find a lot of brutality that you could expect from Death
Metal music.
And what is more, sometimes it feels like the songs are too much one like another.
Definitely the work of
Mors Subita and probably their live shows are worth attention, especially if the musicians will vary their songs a bit more and take care about the quality of production more.
