I’ve been witnessing the second coming of power of Dutch Death Metal for a few years now. While some of the old Behemoths came back with inspiring albums, Sinister and Asphyx, a whole new parallel scene has developed.

If you’re into Brutal Death Metal, Severe Torture or Supreme Pain have among others lead the way. If you're into some good ole Death Metal, there's always the new Razorback Rec. sensation with Fondlecorpse and... Scrotum.

Even though the band formed back in 1997, they have only released so far one demo in 2003 and an EP, Osculum Scrotum, in 2008. This might be just because most members are active in other bands or because they’re too damn lazy to leave their barbecue party (see epic picture inside the leaflet!) and get on becoming the number one band from the Netherlands.

Exposing their six-packs with pride and a few other sausages, members from Scrotum still are the real shit. It may be only a side-project but it is one that deserves some attention. Sure the name of the band may sound like you're dealing with yet another goregrind act (and if so, who fucking cares?) but the music inside is some pure Death Metal.

Obviously, while listening to Osculum Scrotum, the famous Dutch names resurface like Sinister or early Gorefest but you'll definitely find other influences as well like early Cannibal Corpse or even early Morgoth. It's five tracks and it's pretty short but it's also damn intense and I have no doubt that if they have enough material to release a full-length it'd kick your ass for 40 minutes.

Sure, you’d think that with titles like Beerhunter or Fontanel Fucking (the best track in my opinion), you’ll get some porngrind or just generic uninteresting gore freak Death Metal but the truth is that the guys in Scrotum clearly know what Death Metal is about and beyond the comical aspect, this is some serious music. Serious as in “fuck this is great music”.

It kind of reminded me of the American band Sexcrement. Likewise, their imagery is part porn, part gore but the music is way more than decent, it is fantastic. Which makes me wonder… I’m pretty sure that if such bands, including Scrotum, were to drop the comico-provocative stance and aim at “seducing” Death Metal die-hard fans they’d probably go bull’s-eye.

Osculum Scrotum is definitely something worth your attention and worth the few bucks you might spend upon it. Please check their myspace at www.myspace.com/scrotumbrewtalporncore and order the damn thing away. I mean do it now.
