a different breed of killer is a band that formed in Knoxville Tennessee in 2006.
I,
Colossus was their debut album and was released in 2008.
I have to say that this album is fairly impressive for a debut album. It has catchy riffs and smooth transitions from riff to riff. The balance between the instruments is definitely better than many other death metal albums. One of the biggest problems with this album however is that, like most other deathcore albums, it's plagued with unoriginality. Although there are songs from the album like liberation of a giant or the glorious fall that kept me listening for more with their rather beautiful riffs and quick paced drums and guitar, everything off of the CD sounds like I've heard it before. Lyrically i liked this album more than many I've listened to before because the singer, Klint Monroe talked about material other than the usual rape and killing and satan that you would pretty much expect in deathcore. The guitar has a solid refined sound and Nathan Palmer plays excellent and fairly diffucult riffs as though he were Trey Azagthoth. the drummer Nija Walker is perhaps the highlight of the band, with the legs of an Olympic sprinter playing some of the fastest double bass i have ever heard. the best example being near the end of the song liberation of a giant.
Overall this is a pretty good band if you compare it to the rest of the deathcore industry. If you are looking for more traditional death metal the purchase and/or listening of this band is questionable. However if you love
Whitechapel or
Job For A Cowboy or if you judge an album by its artwork this is certainly a must have.
