The Devil Wears Prada have been a huge force in the metalcore scene for a while now, and it's easy to see why. They have no boundaries. They effortlessly refine their sound every album without removing any major cogs. The brutal, well thought-out breakdowns? Still there. The bits of clean vocals and atmospheric keyboard riffs? Yep. The varied vocals that alternate between a searing screech and a throat-demolishing growl? You bet. But, this time around, they introduce a style that's heavier, more thoughtful, more progressive, more atmospheric, and just all-around better. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of their earlier albums, but Dead Throne takes the cake as their most revolutionary album yet. I'll break it down.

First, let's tackle the drums. Daniel delivers the fastest, hardest, and most unpredictable rhythms to date. Check out Untidaled and the title track, and pay attention to the stickman. Next, guitars. There's a familiar sound to the riffs, but overall, guitar tone is massive compared to previous albums. The low end is more up-front and forceful than previous releases, which is a defining factor in the progression of the album. Keyboard sections are few and reserved, which is refreshing, especially with the continuing wave of generic metalcore bands utilizing electronic elements. Lastly, the vocals are the most emotionally driven and intense they have ever laid down.

Overall, Dead Throne is massive. This talented band proves that they can literally do anything to their technique and still put out amazing work without alienating their true fans. Of course, it'll do little to open the minds of critical metalheads to the talented section of the metalcore scene, but it's a start. They once again remind everyone that they're the kings of the genre, and they aren't going anywhere but forward.
