Exile are a thrash metal band from Jordan (a country in the middle east), and their first demo, Dead Thrashers Rising, is a salute to death and thrash metal bands of the late 80s.

For their first demo, the production is pretty good. It isn't top notch or completely polished, but that actually does more for the music than if it had been. The way everything sounds reminds me again of late 80s thrash metal. The guitars pull off a lot of classic, catchy sounding metal riffs and solos and are the main thing I like to focus on when hearing the demo, along with those drums, which are pretty varied.

The vocals are spoken in English instead of Arabic, I guess to hold close to the original thrash sound and feel. The actual sound of the vocals are gritty and dirty and could defenitely stand some improvement, because for the most part they don't really change in pitch or tone. They just aren't very interesting throughout. However, I do like the general approach of the vocals. Low and guttural, remeniscent of Celtic Frost, with less range. I am keeping in mind that this is only their first demo, and vocals improve over time, but the vocals are probably the biggest thing that hold back this band for now.

All in all, this demo is pretty cool, although it isn't overly unique. Some of the riffs work for sure, but there isn't too much here that I haven't heard before from Exodus or Megadeth (although I don't know wether or not those bands inspired this band). This album doesn't get boring at any point, and I'm able to give it my full attention right up to the end. It is worth a listen, and I would recommend the song 'Living Hell' because of it's fast, mosh-pit nature and machine gun drumming, topped with probably the best solo on the demo, (except maybe for the one on 'Killing Storm') and some cool bass sections. This band has potential, and I'm interested to see what their first studio album will sound like. Dead Thrashers Rising is worth checking out for you headbangers and moshers out there.
